3) Which shaft brand would you like to see most in an OEM head?

- v2 - i think it works for a lot of different swings and is very reasonably priced to keep driver prices down

4) In your opinion, what are the top shaft companies (in order of position)?

for me and my game: 1. ust - wide variety, 2. aldila - i've had tremeandous success with the nv-75, 3.

- accuflex - the customer service is unmatched

5) Do you buy a shaft based on price?

- yes, i still like to be able to afford to play

6) Which category best describes your spending habits on golf shafts (less than $100, $150-175 range, or more than $200)?

7) What shaft is for players seeking a higher launch?

8) What shaft is for players seeking a lower launch?

9) Any other comments/suggestions?

- i would like to see more companies offer shaft fitting systems like the callaway optifit system. it would avoid a lot of guessing in shaft selection especially with the new high launching/low spin heads that take everything one knew about shaft fitting and throw it out the window.

1) Diamana

2) UST

3) Diamana

4) Retail its Aldila, Fuji, Grafalloy, UST, Diamana. Its like this because of what people can buy off the rack

5) Nope

6) $100 a year (one shaft a year so far)

7) Grafalloy Pro Launch

8) Speeder

9) I like being able to go to a golf shop, and taking a few heads with aftermarket shafts already in them, and testing them out to see which is the best. If you shaft manufactures could somehow work with OEMs to make this even easier for us to do (aka callaways optifit system is a great start), we can find the perfect shaft/head combo and be 100% content with the fact that it's the right combo for us.

Here are my ramblings…….

1) This year, which shaft brand do you believe has been the most popular on the PGA Tour?

The Graphite Design YS-6/YS-7 shafts are everywhere on the Tour, from my observations at the Nelson and Colonial this year. 2nd place is the UST V2, which is VERY visible. 3rd place is Fujikura Speeder.

2) What golf shaft brand is the hottest at retail?

Aldila NV is still VERY hot, followed by UST V2, which is getting a good amount of buzz. 3rd place Grafalloy ProLaunch, mostly because this shaft helps a lot of golfers, with a good smooth feel, with a softer tip.

3) Which shaft brand would you like to see most in an OEM head?

I want to see Very high quality, spined and pured original Diamanas, Accras or Fujikuras, or other high-end shafts that WE THE CUSTOMER can specify. I don't want to use "OEM Badged" models, I'd rather specify the shaft MYSELF, and I’m willing to wait for a custom-made club with a shaft of MY choice.

4) In your opinion, what are the top shaft companies (in order of position)?

Fujikura

Diamana Mitsubishi

Accra

Graphite Design

5) Do you buy a shaft based on price?

I don't like bargain, entry-level shafts (mostly because of perceived lack of quality issues on my part), nor do I want to spend huge amounts of $$$ on a; shaft. I tend to like either fairly high priced shafts ($75-$150), or high-end pullouts at a lower price.

6) Which category best describes your spending habits on golf shafts (less than $100, $150-175 range, or more than $200)?

I like to stick in the $75-$150 range.

7) What shaft is for players seeking a higher launch?

Aldila NVS, Accra T60, Grafalloy ProLaunch, YS-6, Diamana Red, or any softer-tip shaft.

8) What shaft is for players seeking a lower launch?

Accra SC, Aldila NV, Diamana Blue, Grafalloy Blue, or any hard tip, high kick shaft.

9) Any other comments/suggestions?

I LOVE demoing high-end shafts, and clubs, to discover their characteristics. My feelings are there are a LOT of great shafts out there, and it's disappointing that club manufacturers pigeonhole us into stock cheep shafts, or alternative choices and brands (ex: Aldila NV, ProLaunch), that are accepted in the marketplace.

I wish that more clubmakers would simply sell heads only, which would allow some of us to choose shafts that WE WANT. There are tons of choices out there, and it's irritating to have to buy an OEM club, and then spend even more money re-shafting it.

I'll skip the first questions since there have been alot of answers, and go right to

9. Comments and suggestions

Aside from ability to try different shafts with a given head. I would really like to see consistency in rating a shaft. I have replaced "all" of my shafts in irons and woods.

In some woods, the "s" frequencied out to less than what would be nominally considered to be a wimpy "R". If we are trying "S" shafts, and different shafts for flight and launch characteristics, they should at least frequency out to an industry standard "S" (If one existed). It would be like trying to buy pants where a 36 in waist, was really 32 or 40. What is the point of calling them 36?
