Boy oh boy. It's between the VR Pro blades and the Ping anser or S56. I have always been a Nike guy so it's going to be awfully hard to pull me away from these beautiful VR Pro blades!

I got the original Pro Combos when I was a bogey golfer. What I found was the blade style scoring irons helped me improve my game. I would imagine the pocket cavity in the 3/4 iron means even more forgiveness than a standard cavity back. So I would say these are clubs you can grow into from a 18 handicap all the way down to scratch.

Also...............I have secured my set of these beauties as of yesterday!!!!!!! For $575!!!!!!!

I just picked my set up, and yes, the back edges show on the two pocket cavity irons. The 3 iron is a little more prevalent, but not overly obtrusive. I have to say that is the only thing I can find wrong with these irons. I am going out in an hour to take them for the first 9 hole spin.

Just picked up a new set for a killer price. I had the original Pro combo's and enjoyed them.

I gave them a chance, i did the blades and i feel they weren't as sweet as my 710 MB's. If i WASNT playing the 710's i would put these blades in the top 5 though.

Finally had a Long demo with them today at Carls. They are very nice. But I don't hit them as well as the Ap2s.

Had a chance to spend some time with my VR Pro Combos at the range today. Last night I finally removed all the plastic from the heads/grips so I was chomping at the bit to hit 'em.
Today has been a turn for the cooler, temp was about 38F with a slight breeze. First thing I would say about this set is the pocket cavity is WOW! The 3 and 4 iron are the easiest clubs I've seen yet to get airborne. The entire set feels very smooth and soft. I still can't get over how different the 3/4 are compared to my original set of Pro Combos. I almost hit a third of the bucket with those two clubs. 8-PW are still killer, looks and performance. I would say the 5-7 are just so so. I found them seeming underwhelming after hitting the blade 8-PW and cavity pocket 3/4. Not saying they didn't perform, just really nothing worth getting excited about.

Overall my impression is that these are some of the best looking clubs (IMO) on the market to date. The soft feel of the clubs throughout the set is a plus, but the middle of the pack leaves something to be desired. It's like having an Oreo with creme filling on the outsides and the cookie in middle. I would personally love to see PW-7 in a blade and 6-3 in pocket cavity.

So what shafts are you guys hitting these with, and what shafts are in your current irons?

The OP in this topic posted earlier this year that his WITB includes infamously clicky Titleist blades shafted with the harsh DGSL X100 shafts.

I was at Golf Galaxy yesterday comparing my current MP-60 against the Titleist 710 MB's and CB's, and the Mizuno MP- 68s. The pro there suggested a fourth club when I was done hitting. He wrapped in tape and told me to just give it a good swing. It was the Nike VR Pro. I was really impressed on the blind test, and very surprised when I learned what club it was. The pro informed me that two of Mizuno's top designers left to go to Nike and to expect some great things from Nike in the years to come. He took a trip to the "Oven" and said the things they are doing there will vault them to the top of the golf ranks. I am not sold so easily, but the VR combos really felt great.
