High End Putters

Generic Head Covers?
I recently bought my first high end putter. Now I'm kinda paranoid about someone stealing it. Do you use generic headcovers or just watch your bag closely when at the club? I have a nice collectors headcover as well but wonder if I should actually be using it or not. I've never had anything taken from me before at the course but this is the first time I've spent over $400 on a putter and would hate to replace it.

Thanks.

I had my first Scotty lifted from my bag in one of two 2-minute trips to get more range balls, in a pretty high end range, right in front of a bunch of people. Generic head covers are now my standard for anything that might appear valuable.

While it is certainly your choice to display what you carry, I would reconsider,
and choose to downplay what you display. It is no secret that golfers equipment
have become targets for theft. My bag always goes back to the trunk after playing.
Unfortunately, Thieves are everywhere !!!

Wow, sad to hear that people get their stuff stolen at a golf course. I've never had anything stolen (knock on wood), but have left my bag alone for awhile near bag drops etc and been paranoid about something happening. I've used my Betti and Cameron covers before too. Oh well, what goes around comes around. No way a stolen putter ever gets hot on the greens for the thief, karma is a biach.

I had a friend whose cameron got stolen while he was in the club house.

It seems that putters are always the first thing to be stolen... I wonder why that is? I see way more new driver w/headcovers in peoples bags, than expensive putter covers, but have never heard of one getting stolen... Is it because putters are smaller? or less customized with shafts and flex?

I would assume its because the putters are more valuable and hold their value better. would i thief want a beat up 15 year old cameron napa that sell for 300.00 on ebay or a 2 or 3 year old driver he'd be lucky to get 100.00 for. i've used regular retail cameron covers but never a special edition and i play a lot of public/muni courses and have never had anything stolen. it's probably just a matter of luck.

AM&E all-black cover on my driver, and putter. No need to make a thief's job easier.

If you have a rain cover - keep it on and/or zipped up. Out of sight, out of mind.

I also use my raincover also even during summer. Also place my bag apart from a crowd and in visible sight.

Generic brown AME on my Ping and dirty grey nylon AME on my Scotty. Even so, I'll only leave my bag alone at private clubs. All other times, I'll put it right back in the car.

This is interesting as unless its a scotty or bettinardi (or maybe byron) my guess is that most thieves don't even know the high end putter companies. That being said, they're is not a worse feeling than being ripped off. I try not to use club drops and insist on taking my clubs to car when round is over (is quick walk that saves tons of agony).

I will never forget playing down in florida a few years back, finishing a round and get up to bag drop where there were a few clubs that were against a wall that were obviously found on the course. The head bag boy is negotiating with someone to sell him one these these found clubs!?!? I couldn't believe it, what a jackoff for selling someone else's stuff and even bigger for the other guy buying it. Needless to say last time I was at that course.

Agreed! I've bought the Titleist flag headcover 4 times over for different scotty camerons, never had a problem.
And put your bag in the trunk or out of sight... A friend had an entire bag stolen out of his back seat ~$3000!

I have used generic covers before on my putters but have moved back to just using my normal putter covers that the vendor provides. I don't ever leave my clubs hanging around after a round and always put them in the car before doing something else, like getting a beverage or something to eat. At the range though, that sucks. I've left my bag to get some balls on the range before...geez.
