Am I wimpy if I buy a pushcart?

Recommended Posts

I'm 39 and trying to convince myself to buy a Clicgear 3.0. I checked in the store and it fits my 2011 Ogio Grom perfectly. I am just trying to come to grips with wheeling my clubs around the course. Do I get a free pass at being wimpy because I had surgeries on both of my knees years ago? I don't even know why it bothers me to consider buying one of these three-wheeled contraptions but for some reason it does. Please help.

I'm 20 and I've pushed my bag quite a few times, especially when it's hot and humid here in SC.

No you are not wimpy and its never to early to start looking after your back. The game is golf and there is only room on the card for a score, you dont get extra shots for lugging the bag and there will be no asterisks by your score if you push your bag. I see it that if the pros carried and it was part of the game, yeah it would make a difference as it would be part of the contest. But it isnt, so why should we make the game tough than what the pros do?

Wimpy? No, I give you credit for wanting to walk, that is the best way to play. Go for it, and enjoy.

I thought the same thing being in my later 20s but, I just said to myself I've carried enough heavy crap in the military so whats the point in carrying anymore. Work smarter not harder. I actually enjoy the cart because I can pack more things and have a place to hold my beverage. Also to add to the wimp thing we are talking golf here not UFC fighting. Golf is the most unathletic sport besides curling and bowling.

The clic gear is as good as it gets, and I went that route with the 2.0.

But this year I decided that a Sun Mountain Swift-X and only 11 or 12 clubs across my back would be just fine. Sort of going the minimalist route here.

I have knee problems as well, however I think there are other factors to consider. Fatigue is absolutely a factor on the closing holes. I save tons of cash not taking a cart and since using a pushy it has made a big difference on my stroke avg on the back side. I still try and make my bag as light as possible and I enjoy the fitness aspects of walking.

OP, did you know USGA is now encouraging young golfers to use a push cart in their events? There is good evidence that carrying can have adverse effects down the road. I have had my personal doctors tell me similar things about issues I had at one time as well. Also, I would rather be a member somewhere that is a walking only course if I could...I see what some of the idiot "drivers" do to a course on the riding variety.

I bought a clicgear last year and used it once. I always took a riding cart instead. Now THAT'S wimpy! Save your back and use a push cart. It's more the norm now than carrying.

I am almost 42 and just purchased one in the fall. DO IT! Makes the round more enjoyable and you have more energy. I haven't had surgery but have osteoarthritis in my knees and it does help. They do become sort of a pain on hilly courses though as someone said earlier.

BTW, I had a CG 3.0 and thought it had too much resistance in the grass. I exchanged it for a Sun Mountain V1 and it rolls much easier!

It's a great play for recreational rounds. I can't use them in tournaments, and I caddy on the side, so I always liked the idea of having one to take the strain off the back during practice. They really are hideous though, and there is something appealing about lugging your own sticks around (I'm especially drawn to leather carry bags like MacKenzie and McKennon).

Overall: back>looks/tradition. Go for it.

Well i am 25 and have been pushing for the the last two years. I am in relatively good shape and have a very physically demanding job. its nice to go out and golf and not have the energy or to work out cause you have been carrying your bag around. now i can golf and work out in the same day and not have it affect my workout.

The fact you are walking is typically more than your average weekend golfer will do. Most people around here ride in carts.
[/quote]

Some of the problem is now many courses make it MANDATORY to ride and that is total BS. Takes away some of the enjoyment of the sport for me. It's all about $$$....forcing you to pay for a cart to supoosedly get more people through the course by riding on a given day. My favorite local course is starting to do this and won't allow walking Fri/Sat/Sun at all now

Some might say wimpy is being chronically overwieght and riding a cart every single time you play, and getting winded walking the 10 paces from your cart to the ball and back.

I'm 37 and I just picked up a Clicgear 3.0 this offseason.
I love it!
I love the fact that I'm so much better organized.
I stroll up to the ball, check the gps in the handy compartment, grab a club, hit, move on.
At the tee box, same thing.
Open the compartment, grab a ball and a tee and off I go. I'm playing faster and yet more relaxed. No more setting down the bag, searching for something, picking up and moving on.

To each his own. But I couldn't care less what anyone thinks about my cart.
I'm super fit and run 5 miles every morning.
The only thing wimpy about me is my score when I'm done.
But I'm still having fun...

I am 34 and picked up the 3.0 late last year. It has already paid itself off from all of the cart fees i have saved. Never had one comment or off look when I use it. Just dont get one of those remote controlled carts. Played with a guy who had one and it is pretty loud. He had a couple hip replacement surgeries so I gave him a break.

Thank you for all the replies. I went ahead and ordered a 3.0 in silver and hope to be using it this weekend. I live in Auburn, CA which is quite hilly but we have a few walkable courses and every now and then I play near Sacramento which has plenty of walkable tracks. I will admit that many courses either do not allow walking or would be very difficult to do so since the distance between greens and the next tee can be quite long. Hey, if anyone in the Sacramento area is interested in joining up sometime feel free to send me a PM.

That's the only time I ride. Some courses are just stupid how far apart holes are. One course around here you pass by at least 30 houses, a school, and some other open areas before you get from one green to the next tee. If you were to walk, it would take you 8 hours to play 18 holes.

Good on you OP. I would far rather be pushing than riding. I just dont like sharing a cart in particular, it just disrupts my game. In Africa we are lucky because caddies are affordable, so 95% of the time we walk with a caddy, unless its a real resort course which is carts only/ the layout is really spread-out with huge walks green to th next tee box. Very fortunate and am just gearing up for my Friday afternoon 9 holes and we have our annual tourney for the caddys on Sunday
