FIRST HOLE-IN-ONE today

Well, at the ripe "old" age of 59 and after playing golf since the early sixties (not continually and mostly since 1997), I scored my first ACE today during a regular stroke play round.

 

Williamsburg National (VA) golf club, JAMESTOWN course, HOLE #8, 110 yard par 3 over water, pin in the center right, using a PW.

 

What a feeling, hit the shot and it felt exceptional. It hit the green, bounced once and rolled straight and DISAPPEARED. My playing partner was as excited as I was, neither of us had ever HAD or WITNESSED a hole-in-one.

 

I went on to tie my personal best round 75, surviving two doubles on the back nine. 36/39 - 75. I LOVE THIS GAME. ;)

Congrats! I was just thinking about Holes in One this morning....

I've played about 600 rounds of golf in my life. I caddied for 10 years and witnessed another 1500+ rounds. For arguement's sake, Let's say there is an average of 3 people in each group and a course has 4 par 3s. That's over 25,000 par 3s I have witnessed....and I have never seen a hole in one.

Have had one myself, but hole was only 90 yards and so I feel "incomplete" without one at least in triple figure yardage!

I witnessed one on Goodwood Downs UK once, the old layout before it all got changed round ... a downhill hole where you couldn't see the front half of the green from the tee.. I had a good viewpoint from the next tee .. was fun to watch the guy searching for his ball in the heavy rough at the front for a couple of minutes before I shouted back "look in the hole" !
