585.H review

I thought I would post a quick review of the Titleist 585.H. In short, I was less than impressed. I bought the 19 degree NV stiff. I later reshafted with the Aldila NV proto. I played one round with it and hit a few range balls with each set up. In short, I don't think the club was anywhere near as solid as some other hybrids I have tried. I does not have the feel that Titleist fairway woods have. I was also disappointed in the trajectory. It was not much higher than the three iron it replaced and was nowhere near as workable. It doesn't feel like there is enough mass behind the ball. I have been playing the Rescue Mid TP for three years and it is IMO a much better club. I guess that's why I have replaced everything else in the bag except it...

I'll disagree whole-heartedly here. I just reshafted mine with a VS Proto in my 17 degree and hit it for the first time on the range today. Very wood-like feel, solid with no *ting* sound at all.

I REALLY liked my Nickent 3DX Ironwood with the NV Hybrid, but I'm a Titleist guy and have a sick loyalty to the brand. I knew I'd buy a 585.H, but wasn't sure if it would stick in the bag. I'll wait a few weeks before making the final decision, but if my range session today is any guide - the 585.H is not going anywhere anytime soon.

... thanks, your opinion is just as valid as any. but i have hit almost every hybrid out there and the 585.h is by far the most solid of them all imo. it almost has a muscle back feel, as if it were a one piece forging as opposed to hollow. i was smitten with mine from the first swing. i also find it lower launchin than most, but i find it quite workable, especially high/low. i too replaced the stock shaft with a vs proto and could not be happier with the results.

I tend to agree about the lack of feel. I have only had it for a day and right now I'm thinking I should have bought a 19* 904. My 15* 904 feels much more solid. I too think the trajectory is too low. Maybe my set up. I'll experiment more this weekend as I'll have an opportunity to play with it twice. I bought it on name recognition alone as I love my 905 and 904. I hope it perfroms better on the course than on the range.

I was hitting a 19* 585H yesterday w/ NV shaft. That hybrid is a bullet..I really liked the head but that shaft bites!

How'd you come across this post? It's been over 3 years.. LOL. I have to disagree with you to a certain point. I think he's referring to more specific details regarding its construction, feel, etc. Even though I play it myself and wouldn't change my hybrid in a longshot (unless it was an Adams PNT2 tour issue), I understand and have disagreed with clubs as I am a "low" handicapper myself.

How I found the post I'm not sure. LOL I think the main reason I scoffed was the poster commented the club had a lack of feel and it made me chuckle. The club has nothing but feel, but I will admit it is more of a player's club and unless you hit it relatively well, mishits do feel a little dead...So maybe it slightly defeats the purpose of a hybrid to be easy (easier) to hit, though clearly it fits that bill when compared to a 2 or 3 iron, it is likely not as forgiving as some of the other hybrids out there. I chose a hybrid not so much because I can't hit a 3 iron, but that the ball flight and distance is a little higher and a little more distance, which in all likelihood is due to the longer graphite shaft. I also like to feel like a hybrid club is somewhat workable. I love the 585.h because for me it is easier to hit than a 3 iron, is workable, and feels like an iron. The other eyebrow raiser was he said it felt light. I'd actually say the opposite compared to other ones I have hit, which include the Idea Pro, Hogan CFT , and Cobra , mainly.

I had a 585H and didn't care for the club. I switched to a 909H...much better club IMO; more forgiving and better flight and feel.

I was about to ditch my 585.H and try something else. Even with a DG Tour (X7) shaft in it, I was spinning it too much. It wasn't nearly as long or low spin as my Bridgeston J33 hybrid.

Then I put a Project X HA1 graphite shaft in it. It's now one of my go-to clubs in the bag. With the spin lowered, this thing is much longer and still lands softly on the green.

585.H is the best hybrid I have ever owned. Bridgestone J36 is a close second. I currently have a 17 degree 585.H with a VS proto but will probably have it re-shafted with a steel shaft soon as I prefer steel. I did have the same club with a S300 in it and it was awesome though I moght go with a PX 6.0 in this one.
Anyone else notice that the OP has it in his bag 3 years later?
LOL nice catch. He dogs the club and is still playing it.

What i usually see is someone singing a club's praises, talking about how their search is over and then you look down at their sig and they have a different club in there just a few months later.

I've had a 21* w/ a YS6 for about 2 years and it's the ONLY hybrid to stay in my bag over 90 days.
