The Shaft Dillema

Is there really no compromise?

I'm been thinking about switching out the shaft in my 910D2 (8.75 1 notch closed).

I have a medium transition with a quick release, ss averages out at about 98/99 mph and I struggle with a ballflight that is a little too high at times.

Thing is, I can't seem to find the ideal blend of shaft characteristics. I'm like Goldilocks! I don't have access to a fitter or LM and the Titleist shaft guide, while great for narrowing down, is not the best for selecting a specific shaft.

My current shafts are:

1) GD Tour AD Quattrotech MD-6. Longest, but also least stable/consistent. Ball height is right where I want it
2) Project x 5.5. Best dispersion and control, but ball is slightly too high and I'm losing a bit of distance. Feel is acceptable for me.
3) V2 66- Lacking in feel.

In my mind, I envisage a shaft that is smooth with a stable tip and penetrating ballflight. I'm not sure If I'm asking too much and there simply isn't a shaft out there that will do everything I want. Maybe I will always have to trade distance for dispersion or feel, or any combination.

Anyone got ideas?

The RIP came stock in my 910 and I ditched it quickly because it gave me no feedback whatsoever. VERY cool shaft, but just not for me.

I've settled on a Serrano. Feel is acceptable and ball flight is just about perfect. For now.

Axivcore tour red......I've got the black and the red or green would bring down flight but still feel smooth....

Remember that closing the face (mechanically, via the settings) will actually increase the effective loft of the club - obviously it's more important to hit it straight, but that may affect ball flight.

The Titleist shaft guide is on the Titleist web site and easily printable -- just start clicking on the 910 drivers icon and you'll find it pretty easily .... As for shaft recommendations, I top out at about 103 with more of a medium ball flight and really like the Matrix Ozik HD6 -- has lowered my ball flight and really lowered the spin ....

Looking at the shafts you have and your swing speed, I think the issue could be your swing and not the shaft. While a good shaft in the driver is very important, I think too much emphasis is placed on it, when the variance from high spinning to low spinning shafts is 500 rpm max. So therefore if you are testing all low spinning shafts, spin variance is almost negligible. Learn to take spin off of your driver and FW clubs and your trajectory will improve. If your swing is already good, try tipping a shaft an extra inch. It's a good way to peel some spin off of a setup.

The F3, RIP, HD6, all are good options. All will have different feel though.

Whiteboard/Ahina or HD6. Though you could try something like a AD Di which will launch higher but flat with low spin. However for me nothing would keep the ball flight/spin down with a D2. Hopefully you aren't the extreme case that I am.
