Finally gave this a try. I think the orange looks really good. Red looks good, but not as good as I thought. Need to get some really bright colors. Used a combo of a toothpick and very fine brush. I rubbed the excess off with the toothpick after about 10-15 minutes of drying. Tried the nail polish remover on a papertowel trick and it didn't work so good, at least for me. But next time, I will remove ALL existing paintfill instead of just painting over it.

However, i'm happy with the results.

The Orange looks really good on the black nickel wedge. I am in the process of paint filling my MX-300 irons will post shortly.

Thank you. I may strip out the red and go orange on all the wedges. I got a 54* to do yet and I might try yellow. I tried the yellow on the Black Nickel, but it was very dark. So I might need to get a REALLY bright yellow. I'm digging some of the florescent green I see on this thread as well.

OH the choices!!!!

Look forward to seeing your MX-300s. My father-in-law has a set and was bitching about the paintfill of the numbers fading. I might fill his set as a small favor for all the great things he's done for me.

Love it. Awesome color of blue.

So I started on my 54* wedge yesterday. I decided to remove existing paintfill. Lots of fingernail polish and literally a very small nail to scrape out the paint and I was good to go.

I got some enamel paint to try, since I read that most use enamel over acrlyic. The enamel was much thinner than the acrlyic. Filled better. And this morning once it was dry, removing excess was as easy as using my fingernail. The acrlyic is bolder, more solid looking color, but harder to use and appears not to be as durable. I think after a couple of rounds the acrlyic will wear out of the numbers on the sole, esp on a wedge that gets a lot of work.

There were some pretty awesome colors in enamel too. Got a red that is so bright it makes my eyes hurt and a fluorescent yellow/green that really stands out in the sunlight. Excited to finish up and will post up when done.

i used acrylic and it looks great! but during this mornings round i just put my finger nail on the paint and it was soft, like it would just come right off if i were to pick at it... i used 3 coats and was wondering if there is some sort of sealer or primer for the paint to make it fill and stick better for longer...

thanks for any help in advance!!

A couple of quick questions before I give this a try guys-

1. I like the idea of the nail polish method, how durable is it?

2. What is the most durable paint fill?

3. Would you reccomend stripping the origional paint first?

4. How do you get the paint off?

5. What do YOU think is the best method?

6. Can you paint the badge of the callaway x-tours? If so, how would you go about this?

7. Last but not least, how would you go about paint filling metal-woods? (Superdeep and R9 in my case)

Thanks for the help guys!

does anyone know where you can get a new finish on a set of irons, like satin or black oxide? im playing a set of Titleist 695MB's and im thinking about giving them a new look, preferably a satin finish but if anyone has any clubs they've done id love to see photos and know where you went, (hopefully its somewhat affordable) thanks in advance!

Check the WITB section. There's a member that had black oxide and a skull/crossbones done to his Callaway Prototypes. They look sick.

How do you guys get them to look so official ? I have been testing around on my 3 iron before I do my irons and can not keep the paint crisp on the lines. Do you all just splash paint all over then remove the excess? Or is it just very tedious? Maybe its the paint I got, I have some Testors blue and red that has little gold flakes in it to make a shine. should I stick to solid colors?
