Just Moved To SoCal? Where do I golf?

Living in Redondo Beach

Just moved to Redondo Beach and trying to figure out where to play. Looking for good daily fee course and possibly a membership somewhere with a good Mens Golf Association.
Don't mind spending some money to play the good ones but not twice a week.

i only play muni's or courses that are sub $75 on weekends....that being said here are some recs...maybe others can chime in on the more expensive daily fee courses we have around here.

closes to you is Los Verdes. Muni course...around $40 to walk. you get some ocean views. super crowded. tee off early or you will play for 6 hours.
Rancho Park: west LA, a short drive up the 405 for you.
Wilson/Harding at Griffith park: classic course. Wilson is long at 6900 and Harding shorter at 6500. both in great condition and around $40 as well.
Rustic Canyon: in Moorpark area..about 1 hour drive. but worth it. true links style course. was rated best new afforadable course by Golf Mag when it opened (maybe about 5-10 years ago?).
Mile Square: they have 2 courses there..the Players course has a lot of water and is still maturing.. I still like the original course better. in fountain valley so about a 30 minute drive south down the 405.

if you want to pay more for a country club type feel, there is Pelican Hill in newport beach....trump national...oak creek...industry hills (had an LPGA event there).

hour + drive to the east: eagle glen, oak quarry, empire lakes, etc

I live in Redondo and decent courses within a short trip are few and far between. Rio Hondo in Downey is a decent little track and only about 25 minutes away. I agree with alpine, moorpark area or east to corona are the best values. In fact playing moorpark cc this morning. Rustic Canyon is one of my all time favorites anywhere. Orange county has some decent tracks as well, still about an hours drive.

When I lived in South Bay I fell in love with The Links at Victoria simply because it has a grass range that is lighted. The rounds there are uber long but if you get a tee time early you are good. I also like Trump National and SkyLinks... Just my opinion though.

Hit me up if you want to play in long beach. El dorado, skylinks, lakewoood. I like em all.

As far as mens clubs brookside and rancho are supposed to be great.

Semi private, look into industry hills.

Wow.. Redondo?! I live close, right near LAX, but probably moving back down to OC. Everyone has pretty much covered your options, I usually play down toward the OC, better tracks, faster playing times, a little more $$ but worth it usually.

Lots of fellow players from here and other putter sites as well to get a round in with. So Cal is a great place!

welcome to socal! i too believe golf closer down south (orange county) means better tracks and faster playing times. mile square in fountain valley has a great twilight mon-thurs ($21 or $22 walking). strawberry, tustin ranch, and black gold are also some good tracks here in orange county. if you can make the trek out to the inland empire, there are some nice courses with great conditions and affordable prices.

Seems to be plenty of great tracks around but a bit if a drive. Not the 10-15 minute trips ive been spoiled with. But no problem just get to do a little more exploring!!

Unfortunately, you will have to drive a little bit. Like some have said, some good tracks in Long Beach and some better a little further. Let me know when you can play and I can make more specific recommendations.

clearly all about where you live. moved out here from nyc 6 months ago but up in west la / brentwood, so i typically drive to the north to get my rounds in: rustic canyon olivas links robinson ranch moorpark etc.

my 2 cents are its about where you are willing to drive to. rounds tend to b long everywhere on the weekends and the OC courses are more expensive, so it's really up to you.

greenskeeper.org has been my bible for soCal golf. it is a must use for you. become a member it's free. they have lots of course pics, they update the scorecards / slope / course ratinsg whenever the guys who run the board go and play the course, if changes are made. and they seem to b rather accurate with aeration / condition reports and of course ppl review courses too.
