Been wanting to get my hands on a JW Lees Harvest ale for a long time since I am a massive fan of English barleywines. This did not disappoint. Pushing 5 years old and still feels like could hold up to another 5 in the bottle .

This one Bottled 10/2014 also held up very well.

That is all.

You know, as hard as they were pushing it, it kinda turned me off from even wanted to try it. Thank you for jumping on the grenade.

I just want a straight up 7-7.5% IPA. Or a RIS around 9-10%. Don't need the frilly stuff, just make a solid mainline. That is all.

Truthfully, I liked the beer, but I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed because there's virtually no barrel character or maple detectable at all. It's essentially a less-tart Cherise. If they hadn't of released it under their "Barrel Aged Series" brand, I think people would have been surprised by a great cherry ale...unfortunately I think they got people's hopes up for a unique BA beer and it simply isn't.

Ten Fidy BA... Pretty good!

One negative is the large can, you gotta drink it all in one sitting... Put it in a Bruery size bottle or regular sized can!

I go back and forth on that. Sometimes it is nice to have a larger format bottle/can like when I am sitting down to watch golf or a sports event. Sometimes when I just want something to sip on with dinner or after dinner but dont want more than 1 glass. I have been buying more and more strong stuff in 12oz lately because of that.

When I drink the big Bruery high ABV bottles I have to base pretty much my whole day around it. That is why I usually save those for the majors lol

So Firestone is releasing Bravo a BBA aged brown ale in replacement for Sucaba. In bigger news they are doing away with the 22oz format and moving all the Vintage reserve beers to 12oz @ $9.99ea. This more than likely that some of you who live in Firestone distro areas that do not see a lot of the Vintage stuff will see more now that includes me here in PHX where we get very few cases. The bad news is if places still keep bottle limits of 1 per person we would actually get less beer.

Im not sure about this, the FW stuff was low enough ABV% that I enjoyed the 22oz and it was easier to store the 22oz boxes vs double the amount of 12oz boxes assuming I purchase the same amount of oz.

Thats where the Bruery stoppers come in ooh soo handy!

I bought a bunch of these and they work pretty well:

https://www.amazon.com/Rabbit-Beverage-Bottle-Stoppers-Assorted/dp/B005N0WCE4/ref=sr_1_6?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1485264965&sr=1-6&keywords=wine+stoppers

But I agree, if I'm going to finish an entire bottle from the Bruery, that usually means it's a day at home.

In other news, picked up Alpine Duet, Hoppy Birthday, and Pure Hoppiness yesterday, can't wait to try them. Also got a growler of Wicked Weed's french toast stout, which has cinnamon and maple in it, very tasty. I tried Avery's Maharaja and that was really good DIPA, but the Stone Enjoy by 2.14.17, which is a coffee and chocolate IPA, not so much. Tasty, but not what I want in an IPA.

Anyone else using Untappd?

I was for awhile, but then I forgot about it. It's for very time consuming for how much I drink!

I created an account then quickly deleted it. I decided a running public log of all the beer I drink was not a good idea. I also am not a big fan of the ticker mentality it annoys me a little bit actually. I knew a guy who would go to all the bottle shops and drink 1-2oz tasters of all the stuff they had for growler fills and run home to check them off on untappd so he could brag about how many unique check ins he had.

Got it, I use Untappd because I find the ratings generally helpful, and to find local venues and beers. I know there are others out there for that but there are a couple friends who I like to see what they are drinking. DigitalPour is another one I use for beers on tap, but only one place I frequent is on there. I wish the Wholefoods by me had a better update system for their taps, but maybe there is and I don't know about it.

https://www.taphunter.com/ Download app to your phone.

https://www.beermenus.com/

I use both of these when I travel and taphunter locally as there are a lot of bars on there. I have found some great places to eat and drink travelling off of taphhunter. Ill usually pull them up and look at food menus etc Beermenus is not as big here but is a little bigger in CA and seems to be bigger in the east.

The cool thing about taphunter is you can favorite beers and when someone locally taps that beer it will notify you.

Very helpful, thanks for those.

Btw, anyone try this year's The Abyss yet? I have 2 bottles and plan to drink one now and let the other one age a little more.

And it looks like beermenus.com has an updated Whole Foods listing, thanks!

And that's what i meant about beermenus being bigger the further east you go. WF is usually on taphunter here and in Hawaii and CA too.

Feel free to add me on Untapp'd(same user name)....It's easy to choose a beer if it doesn't have good ratings, but you have to be careful about the ones that get good ratings too. I've learned a little bit by using the app, and you really need to find the beer ratings from those who are true beer enthusiasts and trust their opinion more than the novice drinkers(typically the ones who just rate the beer and don't say anything about it). It's annoying too when someone checks a beer in and doesnt even rate the thing.

Has anyone on here done any kind of trading?

Puppet, I had the Duet & Hoppy Birthday.....Hoppy Birthday seemed better than the Duet to me, but the Duet wasn't a loser either
