Whew!!! My Ping Anser Ti3 Showed up today from eBay and it is UGLY!!!

What's the story behind this putter?

Anyone know anything about the Ping Anser Ti3 Putter? I bought one off of ebay the other day for a pretty good price (I guess??). Really just went off of that, plus photos. It looked cool online. However, the pictures were taken to "accentuate" the good qualities of the putter and hide the less desirable ones, I guess, because this thing showed up today and it is U. G. L. Y. - ugly! It's in perfect condition. Not a scratch or ding anywhere (probably because who ever owned it was too embarrassed to use it). Anyway...

Photos looked like the neck had holes drilled through it, which I thought was interesting, industrial, I don't know, Scotty-ish? But they are not drill holes, instead the neck has rubber plugs in it. Shock absorbers? How hard are we hitting this putter? The neck looked "gun blue" in photos, I thought maybe the lighting, but no... it's just plain, old Metallic BLUE (like a blue MAG flashlight, a bumper car, or a Pepsi can). Its BLUE!!! The milled face really is interesting though. Plus, it has a serial number or model number engraved on the face as well. Minus the neck, a pretty nice looking Anser head. Not sure I can get past the looks though, and am wondering now what the deal is with this putter.

So, what is the story behind it? Anyone? Am I being to harsh? Are they on par, quality wise, with the Titanium IsoForce F, JAS, or Redwood? Any info or opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I love these old Ping putters you have picked up a good club. They did a few models with different coloured hosels. They we limited edition putters. I am sure Duval used one at some point but not sure why i think that. Here's a bit more info:

It snowed here all weekend, then it was 60* with tornado touch downs today, & back down in the 20's tonight, so no chance of rolling it any time soon. Gotta love Ohio Valley weather. I'm sort of getting used to how it looks. Sort of... I meant to bring it home to weigh it, but left it in my office in it's stand. That thing, by the way, is silly. I don't see how you wouldn't scratch it up every time you take it in or out.

If I remember correctly these were pretty much a flop from Ping. A couple years ago I was in the Edwin Watts Clearance Outlet in Orlando FL and there was a very large display staff bag full of these, every model, for $40. I kicked around the idea of buying one but the feel was very harsh. And the funniest part was a little while ago these were going for about $150 on ebay. I couldn't believe it...I could have made some serious $$$ if I would have purchased them at Edwin Watts and sold them on ebay.

Bought a few duds myself over the years.

Ironically, one of my favorite recent putters (based on sinking putts) is a 15 (or so) year old Ping I got for $25 out of a grab bag about a month back.

This line was one of Ping's attempt to do a premium line of putters. These were expensive when they first came out, with the funny headcover. Each different hosel style was geared to a different "toe-hang".

At one time there was a link in Ping WRX that allowed you to do a search via the serial number that showed the specs of each putter. I think that only this line and the Ti pixel Ansers were listed.

PING has taken this idea and definitely improved on it with the new Anser Milled line. Pretty much the same concept without the dated tackiness.

I also agree with you on the new Milled Anser line - it's beautiful. I'm waiting a year or so until the prices drop a little, or until they can be found on ebay for a little cheaper than what they are commanding right now, but man, nice job Ping.

I have a Ping Ti3, I remember registering it... the blue would fade after some use, which makes me think, why do I have 2 of them. (ok one is mint, never used with sticker on the face)

There was no insert.  It was PING's foray into milling, so the face was interesting to say the least...

my uncle got this for me as my entry to golf putter along with my ping i3 green dot irons. it was stolen from my golf bag I believe guess I slant have put a fancy cover on it. truly terrible day felt like I lost my best friend.got it the year it came out and have only putted with this putter until yesterday and discovered this thread. very sentimental club as he passed a few years back so now I'm trying to buy a replacement. if any of you see this and wanna rid yourself of that ugly club ...lol lmk we can work something out.
