Kingsley Club - What to expect?

I will have the opportunity to play the Kingsley Club in Michigan for the first time this year. Does anyone has some advice on what I can expect? Are caddies mandatory? Do you have to walk? I am playing 36 so I want to be prepared for what awaits. I have seen some decent reviews but want some more specific information on what I have to look forward to.

Caddies are not mandatory. Walk or ride, your choice. Might suggest, walk the 1st round, ride the second. Great course to walk, but the elevations make more than 18 kinda tough, unless ur Forest Gump. Have the Angus burger or Philly style cheese steak for lunch. Enjoy

I really enjoyed my opportunity to play Kingsley in 2011 and hope to game it again in 2012. It is truly a gem and have fond memories of number 8.

Kingsley is a very unique course, one of my favorites that I've ever played. Best service I've ever received anywhere. It's a golf club, not a posh country club with all sorts of ammenities. Just a seriously awesome golf course with everything you need in the clubhouse and nothing more.

The 9's are definitely two different courses. Front 9 is like Arcadia Bluffs with more elevation changes, lots of rugged bunkers with long grass near the edge of traps. Back 9 is more standard, but a few holes with big elevation changes. I wouldn't advise walking it if you're planning on playing 36 holes. I rode when I played there and after having done so, I would never consider walking it. Just my humble opinion.

It's a fast running course, Rye grass fairways so you'll get a lot of roll out there.

Truely, a golfers paradise without the other BS that comes with country clubs. Very friendly staff and the course is kept in great shape. Don't forget the swig on 18......

Is Kingsley private?

It is private, but they allow limited public play ( contact info for that is on their website). Unaccompanied guests are required to take a caddie, whether walking or riding, or at least that was the case when I played it two years ago. I walked, but my caddie said most rounds are played with carts. It would be pretty ambitious to walk it twice in one day.

I love the course--it's up there with Forest Dunes as my favorites in the state. The day I played it, the wind was howling at about 30-40 mph, so it beat me up pretty good. I'd love another shot at it under more benign conditions.

I was talking to my dad about this track and I really want get out there. My parents have a summer home in Gaylord, Mi so we have been exploring the courses in the surrounding area. Traverse/Kingsley is maybe an hour away.

This summer we are talking about finally getting to Arcadia... Arcadia is a bit of haul at 2.5 hours. the thought was hit Kingsley one day then Arcadia the next.. hence why I was wondering if it was private.

You can expect to have a guy with a small hand work you up and down that course!

My plan is to do the same thing this year. Took the kids to Arcadia in the fall. What a fun day. This year I think the wife and I will head up with/without the kids and try to play these two.

They did a while back, but it is no longer available. There is talk of someone making a new one, but for now its all just talk.

Great golf course, really enjoyed it when I played there last summer. It was a great layout, in wonderful condition, the staff was great and even met the owner after my round, the whole experience was top notch.
