How long is your putter compared to your body length?

hey,

I'm new here and this is my first post.

I'm from Belgium, Europe so please excuse if my English isn't that easy to understand. ;)

 

I'm playing golf for over 2 years know (17 years old) and I'm thinking about buying a new putter since a believe the one I use know is to long. My body length is about 5.62 foot.

 

So my question is: How long do you think my new putter must be for me to take a good stands?

And how tall are you and what's your putter size?

What is the current length of the putter you play? I'm 6 foot 4 inches and I normally play 36 inch putters.

I don't really know what length it is. i thinks it's 36 inch.

its a Odyssey Dualforce 660.

6ft 3" and a 32" putter. My armspan is 6ft 6".

 

As for you I 'd reccomend trying out a few different lengths to see what is most comfortable. There is no height - putter length formula. You will get all sorts of answers in this thread representing this.

I'm a little taller than you, 5' 8"-9", I play a 34".

I find it allows my arms to hang free and loose...results in a much better/consistent stroke.

I am 6'3" and I started the season playing with a couple 33" putters. About mid-season I went to a 35"3/4 length and have seen significantly more putts drop. I find with a shorter putter I miss to the right of hole more often (pushing the ball). With longer putter I miss alot less but when I do its usually a pull.

Hello & welcome Fernand.

 

I'm 5'11" (1.80m) and use a 34 inch putter.

 

I feel like I am more accurate (line) with a shorter putter, but hit better lags (distance) with a longer one. So, 34" is a nice compromise.

 

I think you may find that there's no "rules" for putter length because there are so many variables involved. Height is important, but you also have to consider the length of your arms, as well as how "tall" you like to stand over your putts.

 

Try some different putter lengths and let us know how it goes!

Ernie played for most of his career with a sub 33". Scotty suggested earlier in the year that he must switch to 36". Did that and one can see it in his putting stats for the year. I'm seeing him next Wednesday at Sun City - South Africa. Will confirm after that.

With a shorter putter you need to hit it harder. So if you play on slow greens I suggest staying with 34" and more.

 

Down here, we often find greens running at 11+ and the shorter putter just give that extra bit of feel and control which you loose on the longer shaft.

I'm 5'8" small and i use a 33 1/2" putter. or i use a 35" putter and i also like the feel of 34" putters.

 

in other words, try different lengths because you might find certain putters feel better. also, i would imagine the head weight will affect your choice.

6'1", and i play a 34"... 35"ers seem way to long for me... i'll probably have my 34" cut to 33.5" over the winter...

I am 5 `9'' I like 33 1/2-34 ".. 70 degrees lie, 3 degee of loft. If I really like the putter I will adjust. Putting is such a personal thing..It has to feel right to you.

First, Welcome to the greatest golf site in the world!!!!! ;) :stop: I am between 6'1-6'3 (haven't been measured in a while) and I use a 35 inch putter and will be getting a 34 in. I will post again if there is a differance

I am 6'0" and use a 42" fitted 2-ball Odyssey. Hmmmmm, think there might be a problem?

I'm 6 foot even and I use a 35 inch putter. I once tried a 36 inch putter but it was too long for me. Trying a 34 inch putter just killed my back. So over the years 35 inches is the way to go for me and agian it should be based on your putting grip and setup. I think if you use a cross handed grip then you should be using 1 inch less putter length.

thanks for all the comments.

This proves what I was thinking: that everyone has a different taste and that I should go to the nearby golf shop and try some different sizes.

 

Of one thing I'm sure, that is that my new one should by much shorter because now my hands are on the shaft instead off the grip. And the head has to be heavier, I like the feel off that.

 

Now the only thing is to decide wich one. ;)

I'm kind of a equipment addict (Well more than other golfers I know).

Sadly few people know Scotty Cameron putters in Belgium so they are hard to find (and expensive).

I also was thinking about a Yes! putter but I my opinion Scotty Cameron is more of a legend.

It's a hard choice. One I can only solve by trying them out.

I have another question.

What Scotty Cameron model would you think I need considering next things:

- needs to be smaller than 35''

- I have a straight stroke

- I like some alignment line

- I am putting either to long or to short (I need some practice) ;)

- I have no preference: mallet or blade

Have you tried the Detour 2? It's a straight Shaft Center Shaft and you can custim order it 33 inches. It's got the alignment line and alot of people have been liking them for some reason. Other than that, Maybe a red X2 CS.
