cherry dot removal on scotty cameron 2012 select

Recommended Posts

Looking to remove the cherries on black select scotty. How careful do I have to be ie. will acetone effect the black finish easily or is it immune to the acetone? Also want to put red paint fill in for site line and possibly other areas. Do I have to remove any of the old paint fill or can I just go over it with the new stuff? Thanx.

Good to know the acetone won't hurt the finish. I want to strip out the cherry dots and do a Tiffany paint fill.
(my version of the sc super rat).

Here's another question: What about tal-strip? Do you think this would harm the finish? This is what I really want to use as it will have the dots clean as a whistle in 5 minutes flat!

Thanks RB! I'll try the acetone first. Don't want to take any chances.

For what it's worth just wanting to add something about Tiffany blue paintfill. To get close to the actual color, Testors paint (white, turquoise, sublime green) will get you very very close to the actual Tiffany color. For Scotty's Tiffany color, you want to use "Robin Egg Blue". Pretty much an exact match!
There's a seller on the bay selling this color and it's is an exact match to what he uses on the new Super Rat.

Then there's the China Glaze "For Audrey" nail polish you can buy too. Another exact Tiffany blue match. Check eBay for it, or you can hit up your local Sally Beauty Supply.

Hope this is helpful to some of you out there.

What I used for my Tiffany ratio was this:

50/50 White, Turqoise and a drop of Sublime Green.
I'm very OCD so my formula was 12 drops of white & Turqoise each and 1 drop of sublime green. (using a dental pic and letting paint drop off the tip). This got me a 99% match to the actual Tiffany Blue.
So if you want to use more paint just use the above ratio on a larger scale.

Mac, any suggestions on how best to remove original site line before refinishing in another color? Thanx.

Take a look at my topic.

I used Toothpicks and Citristrip. Much cleaner / easier to manage than acetone. Just leave it on like a gel and let it sit for a a few minutes and the red cherry fills come right off. The black finish is fine. Good luck!

Yes I did a guerin rife bimini the same way 'cept I used stuff I got from a local Walmart (can't think of the name right now). I am certainly not afraid to try just about anything but my worry is removal of the black finish. But it seems from you guys the finish is not affected. I'll try the citristrip. But please post the pics of your finished project. Would love to see the color scheme. Thanx. BTW went to the link you sent and the putter w/o the dots is cool.

Like it's been said before, the Citristrip will work great and won't harm the black finish at all. FWIW though, the new Select has paint that has been more difficult than most for me to remove. I've soaked it in Citristrip then periodically taken a toothpick to the paint to help loosen it up. It came out eventually but, the grey paint especially, was a bit of a PITA to remove.

Hi Rebby, still enjoin' those baby blades? You know I'm still not clear as to whether I have to do anything with the original site line before changing up the color ie. do I have to remove that grey site line paint too? Anybody?

Nice work Pure! Im not a huge tiffany color fan but that looks top notch. Really liking the white sightline, I might have to do that to mine. Did you do anything to the black finish? Looks like a deeper black color?

Thanks! I did one in blue too, but didn't take pics. I just put some silicone on it, just too keep its looking new. The finishe doesn't need it though.

HAHA.. the new Cameron line is LEGIT. And $300 for what you get is MUCH cheaper than the $3,000+ variety they are comparable too ;)

That was a PITA. I left it for a while, picked at it and left it in again. Did it a few times. Those letters were hard to get out.

The baby blades are as good as they get. Even though I've been struggled a bit lately (I've dropped nearly 60lbs and am having a problem adjusting), when you hit it pure, it's magic.

Site line? On a putter? That's just plain wrong....

Comparable yes, but not the same. I've had my Select side by side with my Tour Rat a few times and the TR has it's differences. Unfortunately for me, differences that I actually prefer. I'll try to get some side by side pics later this week. I need to update my WITB anyway.

I grabbed some pics of the 2 putters. Not side by side but it's pretty easy to see the obvious differences anyway. Bottom 2 putters in this thread. You can clearly see the variation in the cavity, the smaller bumpers on the TR and the straighter toe line on the TR. There are other differences as well but those are the most obvious. The toe and bumpers are very apparent from address.
