Augusta national on google maps

If you guys go to google maps and look at the satellite view of augusta national, you will see some of the crazy stuff that goes on there. Zoom right in and its very different to the course we normally see. Fairways covered in sand, green with shade clothes on them. It looks like they have outlines of bunkes and temp greens everywhere. Especially the 2nd hole! You have to see it to believe it. Make sure you zoom right in and you will see what im talking about.

Once they have checked and gone over the greens for the summer they cover them like this. The covers (tarps with micro holes in them) sit about 6"-1' about the green so air moves underneath it but doesn't allow direct sunlight to bake them out. They are bent greens and they burn pretty easily.

The course is closed in the summer. No play for anyone, members play other courses. Most ANGC members don't even live in the area anyway,

Actually Maps or Earth has the same imagery from above, but if you switch to 45 deg view on maps (automatic when you reach a certain level of zoom) you see the different image.

The course won't be back up until this October.

Most of memebers ANGC don't live here but handful (around 13 to 20 of them) will go to either Augusta Country Club or Peachtree Golf Club in ATL.

That's crazy how ANGC is closed during the busiest time for golf in the year! But I guess they know what they are doing.

ANGC was alway a winter club. Outside of the greens, the course is rye which can not survive the Georgia summers and burns out shortly after the Masters. The club uses the summers for course improvements and replants early in the fall for winter and spring play. As mentioned earlier, it's not uncommon for Georgia members to be a member at Augusta Country Club or Peachtree where they can play all year.

I had this book that had what they did to ANGC during the non masters week. They do some pretty insane stuff to insure there are 0 brown spots on the course during the masters.

I was lucky enough to play PEACHTREE a few times over the last few years travelling from australia. Its a truely amazing course and apparently its the closest thing to Augusta. Sage Valley which is near by to augusta also is very similar also.

Great that you had experience with nice courses.

Sage Valley: new money, new course and great service BUT course isn't that upscale in my humble opinion. This is more toward to corp outing and customer entertainment. $120k will get you in. Not really an exclusive nor traditional. lay out of the course is average with good to great condition. Of couse they pamper you to death.

Peachtree: Very similar to ANGC and great history, tradition, no fancy & shining stuffs here. No new money can't come in. Name of the club and member list speaks itself. low profile and approach are second to none. Golf course itself is amazing track. A lot of ANGC members are member here and invitation only. You won't find this golf couse easily. Well hidden in Atlanta, No website. Invitation only. They have 220 members and 80 are in waiting list as they were preselected by the club. For any golfers, this is the holly grail along with ANGC and Pine Valley
