Just bought a brand new set of Curtis Strange VIPs. All hand ground by Don White (I'm told) to Curtis Strange's specs.

Gotta agree with Tembolo. I love the Hogans of the 1980s. Summer of 1986 I went to my favorite shop at a great Muni. The Pro was a real old timer and literally invented (in our area anyway) the trade in. He had a huge rack of used irons all boxed up (each set boxed with descriptions on the outside of the box). I used to go in there a couple times a month. He usually had 20 to 30 sets and it seemed always had great MT sets , Staffs and Hogans. That day I popped in he had a set of Hogan PCs that looked like they had gone maybe 10 rounds, with nice GP half cords and Apex 4 shafts. They had a nice grind to them, rounded leading edge, the set you don't see that much. 3 thru E. I was on the range not an hour later hitting them off the grass in my glory on a hot summer afternoon. Loved that set. Oh, those were the Good Ol' days.

Oh yes...good ol' days indeed! A shame they don't make clubs like these anymore!

I'll post my all time favorite set tonight. It's my grandfather's Hogan sunburst blades. I had them re-done in black ox (probably the 6th time i've done it). This was my first set for the first 6 odd years I played and they are still great. I have them shafted up though so they won't be the usual head only pics.

I went back to my old MacGregor irons. 985 Tommy Armour. 2-10 iron. Made somewhere between 47 and 52. There the ones with the real long hosels. As solid as any forging I've ever hit. Shot my lowest round ever with these. I have DG s300's in them. Similar to the ones (915) Johnny Miller used to set the record at the US open.

Those are #2 on my list. They are an awesome set of sticks!

Just curious, what's your #1?
[/quote]

Tommy Armour 985 late 40's early 50's version. This blade is what all other blades are based on.

I think these are the sexiest blades I've ever seen:

Definitely in my top 5. Are you an owner? These don't come around eBay often do they...

Sadly not an owner. If I ever got a deal besides the 2500 dollar one on the bay..i'd probably hop on it.

Through no real skill of my own, I was able to get a set of the 40th anniversary limited edition Personals on the bay this past June. Original shafts & grips had been swapped out, but minty heads & still a very good buy. Tembolo, if we get out at Bethpage next year, I'll bring them along for you to hit!

Keep watching out for them. You can pick them up for a lot less than that. I've seen them brand new anywhere from 900-1400.

Even if they are beat up I'll have them rechromed and all that! I owe you guys my grandpa's hogan sunbursts from 1958. Hopefully tonight.

I got them Apex IIs from your avatar. They are just gorgeous. My friend has a set of johnny miller's macgregors getting shafted up. He had them black ox'ed with red paintful like my hogan pcs. Hopefully he'll let me touch them when they are ready.

Already got mine. Just wanted to give a heads up for those who seek the golden ticket. :busted_cop:

FYI, I've NEVER seen a new set go for $600. The lowest I've seen was $900, and that was just recently.
