saw a very rare set of Byron Nelson MacGregor irons last night on e bay, comes with a hickory putter. Anybody else see those? I don't know if those were something very rare and collectable or not, but all the signs were there. I'd pick them up, but all they would do is sit.

Those are MacGregor Tommy Armour FC4000 Diamond Back SS1s ...which means stiff shaft.

The number designation on MacGregor woods and irons indicates shaft flex. 1 = stiff and 2 = regular/firm. Does 3 = regular or soft regular? I don't know, aa the 3s are pretty rare.

This holds true for all MacGregor models, so you'll see different numbers attached to identical models, like SS1, SS2, and PT1W, PT2W, and AT1W, AT2W, MT1 and MT2.

Getting back on topic, if I could own just one, it would have to be the 99 Apex. I am old enough to have gamed Apex II, 88 Redline, and 93 Ft. Worth (these don't get enough love) but, IMHO, the 99s are THE one.

Hogan apex redlines are the kiddy.
I missed out on a set of macgregors on ebay and now can't remember the name of them. MT 68 or something like that they were sort of a brass bronze colourl

Not necessarily my dream set, but I just found a hardly used set of '73 Staff Dynas with the weight plug in the toe at Goodwill, 2-pw for $27. Was surprised at how nice a shape they were in. Took a couple of them out to the range and man ithey felt like heaven. Would like to find some '65 Fluid Feels, that was my first new set.
