Getting a course membership, unlimited golf here i come!!!

Recommended Posts

Picking up a membership for $3500 at a local course (Talega Golf Club 6,950 yds, 73.5 rating and 136 slope) and am amped. Not the best time to be picking it up because of the time change but will be able to play a quick 9 before work basically every morning and play after work until the end of October. Its only good for M-F but then i dont have to deal with those long weekend rounds (and the high cappers that come with it) and will practice then.

My buddy was concerned about getting bored playing the same course but I say eff that. Golf is golf and I will take all i can get because each shot is different.

I practiced from the same bunker every day for the last 5 months, so now i have a few more to practice from:)

Any thoughts from you fellow WRX'ers?

I wouldn't do it. I play with guys all the time that dominate their home courses pretty well...shooting in the 60s. When you put them on another course, or worse, in a real tourney they fall apart like a $2 suit.

Plus I've played Talega before, and it's OK, but there are so many courses out here you'll be missing out on!

jealous much? lol.

hopefully this does bring me to the 60's!! Dont know where you play but Talega is sweet, so much OC golf is a joke anyways.

I finally joined a club about 18 months ago and now I wonder what took me so long. I get over there at least twice per week in the evenings to practice or play, and always on Saturday morning with a great dogfight group. Plus various tournaments and events as well as a periodic Sunday game. I've met a lot of great new people, the staff all greets me by name, and the playing and practice conditions are so much nicer. I haven't even got close to bored yet - our course has a varied layout which really helps. In terms of losing the ability to play well at other courses, well, I shot my third lowest round of the year (lowest round at the time) in August at another course I hadn't played in the last three years. I still play sometimes at other places, which is probably a good thing in terms of keeping my golfing mind fresh.

Jealous? I think most WRXers could drop $3500 on a membership.

CB....That's cool. Too me one of the big benefits would being able to stop on the way home and say play a combo of 4 or 5 holes that will take you out for 2 or 3 and finish up with 8 and 9 or something like that. That way if you don't have time for 9 or 18, you can still get some play in and not feel cheated.

Don't know anything about the course or where it's at...(maybe Socal) based on the OC comment? But I can see why you'd do it. Is it good for 12 months?

yeah thats exactly what i am thinking. Its for 12 months, so it seemed like a solid deal, especially if i go a lot.

The other Main thing I just dont want to play on the weekend with all these high cap golfers who are so slow. it seriously is a waste of time, dont want to go on a tangent but if you cant break 120 regularly then dont even come to the course.

Congrats! I joined a club a few months ago and love it. I take my kids out in the evenings and we walk 4 to 5 holes on weekdays or 9 holes on weekends. We have a blast and will occassionally hang out by the pond and feed the Koi and stuff. Worth every penny!

I hope you don't make the mistake of "ruining" cb24s rounds! Hopefully you and your kids can break 120

Congrats!! Getting a membership definitely helped my game this year. I played so much more golf, and my handicap dropped because of it. Like an above post mentioned, just being able to play a few holes, without the feeling of wasting money, is huge. Try to get there as often as possible.

BTW, The course pictures on the website look awesome (certainly better than "ok"). I might try to play it next time I'm out there.

Nice course... That course is diverse and challenging enough, you shouldn't get bored. I've played there many times. Dam near drive the #1 green. Love that 205-220yd Par 3 with water on the left. Hate that blind par 4 or 5, (don't recall), think its on back, coming in; where you hit over a tree filled ravine to a nearly perpendicular narrow fairway? :)

:) That's why we go in the evenings. Most of the time, we're the only ones out there and we always let people play thru.

sweet! I figure it will be like getting a disneyland membership, no pressure to just play a few holes because you arent trying to cram it all in and get the most from your money. Will be nice to play everyday instead of going to the range too, my tee game needs the help.

I'd do it. As a junior I could get a unlimited membership for $125 with unlimited golf and unlimited driving range. I've played at least 65 rounds this year on the same 9 holes.

It always amazes me how expensive memberships are in different parts of the country. You could join a private club here in Northwestern Illinois for $3500. Most annuals run about $600 on a nice track. Of course we're lucky to be playing much after October and before April. Good luck at your new club! Have fun.

Where to begin. What has that got to do with him wanting to become a member somewhere and have all the benefits that come with it? He'll be able to practice more, enter tournaments, work on specific parts of his game in total freedom, enjoy events and functions. A better question would be...why wouldn't you want to join?

Plus, your logic about 'falling apart' on different courses is just...weird. He'll become a better player and whatever sense of unfamiliarity he feels, it will be negated by his overall improvement. By far.

+1 for the non economical benefits, expecially if you live near the course. Economically it's a wash (You could play 35-40 click4teetimes/golfnow rounds for the price of your dues).
