Location Ideas for Buddy Golf Trip

Last week 8 of us went to Barefoot Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach. We all had a great time, but are now looking for ideas for next year (October 2013). What we really liked about Barefoot was the following: 1. Great Courses, 2. All Courses were located near each other and our accomadations, 3. Reasonablly Priced ($650 per person included room for 4 nights, 4 rounds, and breakfast), 4. There was good nightlife in the area, 5. Replay rates.

 

We'd like the quality of the golf courses to be priortity number one, no further than 45 minutes from an airport, multiple golf courses located on the property, reasonable pricing, decent night life.

 

I've ruled out Arizona because they overseed in October.

 

We may end up at Barefoot again next year because it had everything we wanted, but can anyone suggest other areas that we should consider?

No specifics but I'm sure Hilton Head would fit the bill.

People are going to say Bandon and RTJ Trail but I dunno if those fit some of your requirements.

Considering all of the courses in the Myrtle area you could probably go there a dozen times and have a dozen unique experiences.

Bandon is way out of the price range. RTJ Trail is a good option and exploring more of Myrtle is a good possibility.

Do you have anything specific? I might price Innibrook in Tampa. The have multple courses at one facility.

4 out of the 8 guys come from Denver or farther west, so I'd love to fin somewhere out west. Bandon is too expensive.

Have you looked into Sunriver, OR? Or Bend in general.

Some amazing courses and good lodging deals. You can play as cheap as you want or as expensive or you can get a good mix of both. Great night life for a small town.

It might be a bit of a stretch but you might want to look into the Prairie Club in Valentine, NE. Two great courses along with a really fun Horse (par-3) Course. Third course in the works but I don't think ground has been broken yet. Lodging is pretty nice and food there is very good as well. The downside is that there is no night life whatsoever which we didn't care about since we were playing 36 a day and were beat by the end of the day. The guys from Denver could drive there and for everyone else they can fly into either Omaha/Sioux Falls and make the 4 or so hour drive or everyone flies into Denver and you play your way to Valentine.

Yea the whole month of October our course conditions SUCK! My home finally opened yesterday after 2 and a half weeks of being closed down, the fairways are great but the greens are awful.

Vegas is out because there isn't a 54 hole resort facility close by the airport that I know of. Corrrect me if I'm wrong.

Bandon in first week of Nov drop rates and weather isn't likely much different than last 2 weeks in Oct. Worth a look...

You're not wrong, but why those parameters?

Guys + Golf + Vegas = An experience not duplicated anywhere else.

Rental cars are cheap,and many courses offer shuttles from the strip. (There are tons of courses there!)

I got that weird vibe too. The checklist seems a little strange for a guys trip. Vegas has lots of great golf albeit all somewhat desert-style. Paiute has 54 holes and its prob 1 hour from the airport. Easy drive too. Primm has 36 holes, 30 min from airport. But was really wondering why does anyplace have to have 54 holes? In Oct you prob couldn't play all 54 in one day anyway or you'd be cutting it very very close.

We like to get an early start and having golf within minutes of where your sleeping (and sometimes hungover) is something we want.

Paiute does look interesting though.

Move it to August and go to northern Michigan. Some of the best golf. Prices are great on packages. October can be iffy on weather

You can fly into Traverse City and grand traverse resort is about 15-20 minutes, they even have a free shuttle to and from the airport. Boyne is about a hour from the airport too.

Still a bit unsure about your criteria, but the Vegas suggestion is a good one. If you are concerned about having to rent a vehicle and drive around between courses etc, then another Vegas option would be Primm Valley Golf Club. Not sure about all the transporation options but it is 35 minutes from the airport so you might be able to get a cab/shuttle at a discounted rate through their pro shop/package booking.

Stay onsite and/or get a package deal with them. 2 great courses and awesome practice areas. Good rates. You could augment it with a couple of rounds in Vegas on your travel days etc.

How about Kohler? Prices drop once the fall temps arrive. Also can save $ if you skip the Straits course and don't book rooms at the resort itself. Several other good courses in the vicinity: Bog, Bull, Erin Hills. Easy access from the Milwaukee airport. One downside is there isn't much nightlife. You said course quality is your #1 criterion, so you might want to look into it.

Myrtle Beach is hard to beat with that set of criteria. You could pick a half dozen different resorts around Myrtle Beach and all of them would satisfy. As you've found from the previous responses, many of the other options - although fantastic in their own way - don't have everything you're looking for.

I'd suggest going back to Myrtle Beach and trying either the Legends facility, the True Blue condos, or the Glens group of courses. I think all would satisfy your criteria, and I'm sure there are others there that would as well.

If you stay at the Pinehurst resort and want to play #2, then it is going to be out of your price range, but there are about 50 golf course with in 15 min drive of the village and lots of options for all price ranges. I hear Tobacco Road Travel is a really good resource for that area, but again if you are just dead set against renting a car then these may not work either.
