These are great!

I think one of my favorites was this in regards to cart path for the day:

Customer walks in: what is the 90 degree rule?
Me: It means that you go off the cart path at a 90 degree angle to where your ball is.
Customer: Oh, I thought it meant it had to be 90 degrees to use a cart or something.

I wanted to bang my head on the counter repeatedly after that.

"If I go out at 3:30 can I get the 4 o'clock rates?"

I've got a couple that drive me up a wall.

Caller: I need the earliest tee time you have.
Me: Ok, I have a 7:20 available, how many players?
Caller: Woah, woah, woah, thats too early... Have anything around 9?

The other is when I get an Assistant from another club that calls to set up a tee time for a member, typically from a private club. The conversation alway goes:

Caller: This is Joe from XYZ Country Club, one of my members is looking for a tee time Saturday at 8:00.
Me: Well, we are pretty busy that day, the earliest one I have available is 11:30, will that work?
Caller: I'm not sure, I'll have to check and call you back.

My problem with this is that instead of the member calling us directly, it now takes 5 phone calls to book a tee time instead of one. Member to Joe, Joe to me, Joe back to member to ask, Joe back to me to book, Joe to member to confirm. I'm assuming that the member does this because they think that if Joe calls they might get a break on price, which never happens.

I use to work in the golf business and I remember those conversations with members and they were classic. Unfortunately I am now the member making some of those phone calls to my club. I am one of the weather guys. Although my reason is legitimate, my club is 50 miles away and the weather can be drastically different. So just the other week I called to see if they were open and the assistant was sort of confused by my question. He said "yes we're open, we have no snow and 36 of the holes are open."

There was 4 inches in my town.
