idk if this is overrated or a pet peeve but I think any restaurant that has more than a 2 page menu of food items immediately takes a giant step backwards

I'm convinced the world is kidding about In-N-Out Burger. It has to be a giant put on, some type of perpetual April Fool's joke applied to food. Maybe there's an eventual payoff that I'll miss out on, like a debit card applied to anything but In-N-Out, so you can flush it out of your system, as reward for all the undeserved propaganda.

You've even got sports commentators falling for it. I previously respected Hannah Storm until she gushed about In-N-Out during the Rose Bowl parade telecast a few months ago. I'll give her in a pass in that she was undoubtedly brainwashed by Dan Hicks.

My first week at USC, my roommates and I piled into a truck and they promised their new deprived Miamian friend a trip to a fast food joint I'd never forget. Unfortunately, they were correct. It took weeks before I trusted them again on anything.

Minuscule and Mediocre, that would be a suitable name. The help are perky and friendly. I'll give them that. In-N-Out monopolizes helpful and chirpy employees. Otherwise I have no idea what recommends the joint. Simple menu, that's a plus. The milk shakes are good. But when the feature burgers look exponentially better than they taste, I have no idea how you remain in business, let alone thrive with a cult following. I'm almost convinced the regulars are looking at the pictures as opposed to actually sampling the contents.

Las Vegas eventually got In-N-Out. Prominent location, adjacent to UNLV on Maryland Parkway. I'd hear the praise and somehow give it another try every year or two. Unbelievably inept handicapping. Nothing ever changed. Same dependable Minuscule and Mediocre. I prefer Jack in the Box down the street. They might kill you but at least you'll understand that a payoff was attached to the risk, unlike In-N-Out.

My most recent idiotic venture was a year ago March, while at the end of an exhausting day. I drove from Las Vegas into California and climbed Kelso Dunes. Magnificent, and satisfying. From there I drove a couple hours to Lake Havusu City. Never seen London Bridge before. It was interesting, if somewhat touristy. Smack across the street from the London Bridge parking area was a damn Minuscule and Mediocre. You've got to be kidding me. Why couldn't it be Checkers? Anything. Waffle House and the chicken sandwich platter would be preferable. But I was starved, and I reluctantly gave it another shot, trying to be positive. What a joke. At least it was worth an elongated chuckle all the way back to Las Vegas, on that dangerous road near Laughlin. In-N-Out is certified pathetic in every state and city that I've sampled it.

My goal is never again.

You are the 1st guy I've read that has slammed.....In n Out burgers...ok.....I've read some other -ve reviews on some food sites....but not with your analysis.

In Canada...we don't have the variety of fast food joints vs. the US.

So in 2010...I tried In n Out in Vegas.....not bad but not as good as I thought vs. all the rage I read about.
I only had the single, fries and pop combo.

The place was busy with a line-up.
IMO......I think it was more popular than McD, Wendy's, etc.....cause I think their combos are about 15-25 cents cheaper than their competition.

The gals on the LPGA tweet a lot about In N Out.

They opened a 5 Guys not far from me.
A single, fries and pop including tax was something like $12....I'm not shelling out that money for a burger.

The thing I like in the US are the greasy spoon bars with the neon lights....we Canucks are too sterile to have these joints...it's a shame....lol

I live in SoCal, and I've had them all 100s of times. The level of the In-n-out burger is way above Micky Ds, Wendys, Carls, Jacks, etc... Their fries are mediocre--MickyDs fries are my favorites, but we're talking burgers, not fries or shakes. And you're right, Five Guys is in a different category as it's a $13 meal.

You're right.
I didn't think In N Out's fries were all that g8.
Crazy how expensive Five Guys is....but obviously there is a market for an expensive burger....just like everything else in the consumer market......

I'm not sure if 5 guys have different price structures, but for $12 you will get a double burger, a full fry and a drink. If anyone here can seriously eat all that, then the price is the least of their long term problems. I get the smaller burger (1/4 pound) the small fry (still more than a mcdonalds large) and a drink and I"m always at $8. That is still some cash for lunch, but non frozen fresh food costs more. If I wanted frozen horse burgers, I"d go to the .99cent menu at mcdonalds.

The size of the order of fries is my biggest beef with 5 guys. its seriously insane. I don't eat fast food often, but, the times I have been there my wife and I have split a small fry and still not finished it.

I can't stomach Nutella... Stuff is nasty
[/quote]Well, if you don't like chocolate or you don't like hazelnuts, then I could see how you might not like Nutella. I like them both and can eat it right out of the jar.

But here's what I don't like, sweet stuff on my savory stuff! Don't put pineapple on my pizza. Don't put cranberries on my turkey. No pineapple on my ham, you get the picture. And not a fan of sweet and sour sauce. I'll have my sweet stuff for desert.
