The Grand Del Mar is a course associated with the Grand hotel, and you either need to be a member there or stay at the hotel. The name is kind of misleading since it really isn't in Del Mar.

The Del Mar Country Club, referenced above with the big money games, is a private club at the edge of Rancho Santa Fe.

Whatever you do, don't play Carleton oaks. Good God, that was not an enjoyable golf last summer. Very difficult course, but not in a good way. Conditions weren't good. Not a very nice area. I almost walked off the course.

Course is in good shape
40 is a pretty good deal there

skip redhawk.. i really dislike that course.. if you are driving that far play pechanga or stop at golf club of california in fallbrook.. both (imo) are much better courses than redhawk

I have played Redhawk many times. Its a great test of course management golf, and reason why its has been a Champion's tour qualifying course. It's not for people that have to hit driver all the time, or better yet can't control it. IMO it's better than Journey, and just as enjoyable as GC of CA in Fallbrook.

Aside from Journey's great condition, it's nothing more than a tricked up windy venue for resident gamblers, and others to play once; so it can be said, it's been played. Its surely not worth the cost, which equals Aviara and higher than Maderas; both better tracks.

I'll let him tell you about his rounds but I know for sure that he got out at least 2 great courses. Wish we could have met up and played but scheduling didn't work out for thursday. He did play with another wrx member though.

Not sure when or if Klay will chime in here but I had the pleasure of showing him around a couple courses during his stay here.
Monday we played Sea N Air on North Island 16 days after they aerated the greens but it seemed more like they aerated the day prior, not good playing conditions but we both had fairly good rounds.
He played Balboa on Tuesday
And then in typical golf fanatic visiting San Diego fashion we played Torrey South on Wednesday even though they had aerated 1 week prior.
I wish he could've experienced the true Torrey greens but not knowing if he'd ever return to SD it was a bucket list sort of thing. I will never say no to Torrey South for $61....(sorry out of towners)
All in all I'm pretty sure he had a good time even though I peer pressured him into walking both rounds, I guess that's unheard of in Myrtle Beach so it was his first time.

Played with a couple of local aspiring pros when I was there last....great guys....until they told me what they paid. The fact that they bombed it by me on 1 by about 40 cleared up any illusions about me moving the ball like I'm used to at sea level....and was compounded by the fact that I had paid $220...haha.

Definitely bring my property tax bill next time so I can stop being the sucker that pays full pop...lol.

Yep...when I played with Double or Triple in February, he paid something like $45 or $50 I think, when I got to the starter, I just pointed and said..I"m with him Then of course I handed over my out of state license and helped the economy of LaJolla. I think I only paid $198 or something, maybe it was winter rates?

Still considering some of the couses in our area that charge $130, Torrey was well worth the extra $$

Well I'm glad I got Torrey off my "bucket list" a few years back. I "only" paid about $100 to walk. I guess they went up before the redo for the Open.

Hey guys... For anyone wondering, I loved playing in San Diego, and very much appreciate the hospitality of Tony(futuresuper)

Played 3 rds while there and really enjoyed all 3. Sea N Air was a decent little course, we both played pretty well that day, low 80's... I really enjoyed Balboa and for anyone who hasn't played and lives in SD, give it a try, cool little course, but play the blue tees, very short, but very interesting, hills, cliffs, huge drops to greens, etc... Very very interesting, even more than torrey. And then there is Torrey, haha, what can I say, played pretty bad, BUT, I would do it again in a heart beat. Torrey has some absolutely beautiful holes, and even from the white tees, very long... I didn't get a chance to play Thursday with doubleortriple unfortunately but I would have liked to if I could have.

Futuresuper: thank you again for your hospitality, I really enjoyed getting in a couple rds and if you do make it this way let me know for sure. And I had to do as the Romans do, hahaha, if you walked, I was walking. Back to the old man cart in myrtle though, lol, you get run over here without one,,,, lol. Cart fees are included pretty much everywhere...
