3 club Challenge... Which clubs would you bring??

Recommended Posts

i would pick the clubs that maximize the opportunities to hit full clubs into the greens that also provide the most utility. practice 5 footers with a wedge/short iron and you won't need a putter.

If that is too much effort, a 200+ club, a 110-150ish club and a strong sand wedge is kind of a no brain choice. For me, that would be 3H, 7i and 52 or 54 wedge. If it is really long or really short course, I'd go 3W instead of 3H.

really curious why people aren't choosing driver very often...

obviously depends on the course, but at most courses I hit driver off the tee at least 8-10 times...home course its closer to 12.

I'd go driver, 8 iron, and 56*

Callaway Great Big Bertha 9* (Rogue Rip i/O 60x)
2016 M1 3HL (Aldila Rogue Silver 70x)
TaylorMade p790 3i (KBS Tour S)
TaylorMade RSi TP 4-9i (KBS Tour S)
Mizuno T7 Blue Ion 46-50-54-58 (S300)

yeah that makes sense, I just figure if you hit driver off the tee you aren't going to need much more than an 8 iron into any par 4 and a shorter approach is usually a lot easier for most people.

Alright everyone who is currently stuck in snow like me....anybody interested in having an online 3-club "tournament" once the weather warms up? I think it'd be fun to actually put all this to the test in April or May! Everyone can head out to their home course with their chosen 3 clubs, then post the results afterward.

Course rating/slope
handicap
3 clubs
score

I think it'd be fun! anybody else?

6 iron, 54*, putter

I've never done the three club challenge. But I have played 9 holes with just a 7 iron ala tin cup, it was a lot of fun!

I'd say 5 iron, 54*, and putter.
5 iron can get you off the tee and most approach shots.
54* around the green.

I would take a 3 iron or hybrid, an 8 iron and a putter.

The only concern is if you end up in a bunker. Don't even want to think about that.
[/quote]You could always putt out of bunkers as long as the lips aren't steep. I would just avoid them.

You would have to hit 3 smeared 5 irons to reach our par 4's! 5 iron is not a good idea for your longest club.

Yea thats not a good mix. You will get handled in a 3 club match! lol

Haha, 6 is my bread and butter club. I would hit that off the tee, and on the courses I play I could hit the majority of greens on par 4s with 2 6 irons, and with 3 on par 5s. Just what popped into my head, maybe a driver would be better instead...

I've played in a few 3 club challenges and all were under 6200yds, where Par 4's are 340-380ish. I have never seen or even heard of one from 7k tips where Par 4's might be 450+yrds.
