If I'm not mistaken, Frank Beard was the PGA Tour's LEADING MONEY WINNER IN 1970 or 71. I recall reading in golf or Golf Digest that year
his earnings boiled down to something like $30-35.00 every time he hit a shot that year. total earnings a gargantuan $175,000. My, how times have changed.

Hi.

....While most books detailing life on tour talk about nights spent in a room practising putting or playing bridge etc, I'd be interested to know if there are any tales of hell raisers in the 40's / 50's era? The haig springs to mind but there must be others.

Since no one noticed, I'll mention that the picture on the dust jacket of "Making The Turn" isn't Frank Beard..... it's Tommy Aaron, printed in error. The unsold books were re-called and a new dust jacket was printed. A fitting tribute to FB, who supposedly did some "not so honorable" things in his club pro career. TA was a nice guy.

Interesting. They were both teamates at Florida as well. At various times over the years, I have met both and they seemed nice. I read somewhere in GolfWorld last year that Beard is now in the real estate business.

Yes, they are. I found them in an antique store for $10 each. I know they aren't valuable, but I bought them to read as much as to collect.
