Hmm... MP54 3-5 iron, MP4 4-9 iron, Vokey hand grind 47, 53, 59? Hmm.. :miz:

My bag next year, MP 54 3-5, MP4 6-PW, Cleveland 588 53,59. I'm thinking there won't be any two ways around it.

Nike's offering is going to be solid as well. Between Mizzy, Nike, and Titleist's new offerings.. there are going to be some really solid irons coming out!
You can say that again. Seems like Cally is going to do something also along the players line and S55 out too.

Hit the MP4 demo 6i today with Nippon 1150S. Well struck shots rewarded with absolutely pure feel, at least the equal of 68s and 69s, both of which I have owned and played. Also smoother and more satisfying than the 64 with the same shaft. I currently play 64s with aftermarket Nippon 1050Ss.

My view on forgiveness: 80% shaft, 20% head. Put the right shaft in any head and you will do pretty well, assuming a modest threshold of ability. But put a forgiving head on the wrong shaft, and you are in trouble. I would say based on my indoor on-the-mat non-trackman simulator there was little difference, if any, between the MP4 and the MP64 in forgiveness.

I have ordered the MP4s 4-P with 1150 Stiff, .25 long/1deg up.

Currently playing the MP-68s. Absolutely love them, and Was not looking to get new irons until the end of the year. We have a Beat the pro tourny coming up, and you can put up a bet up to $250 bucks, and I will be betting that amount. (even if I lose I still have $250 pro-shop credit, if I win it will be $500). And I will be demoing the MP-4s. If I like the feel, looks like Christmas will be coming early for me this year :) Can't wait to try them. Called the Pro shop yesterday, and they still have not got the demo heads. Which is weird, since the club is a top 100 Mizuno fitter, Thought they would be one of the 1st to get them.

I thought the MP-4 felt soft but the MP-54 felt softer. I'm not making any moves until I can hit both with different shafts on a grass range and/or Trackman.

I'm anticipating going H4 2-iron, possibly H4 4-iron (crazy easy to hit even if they are hard to look at) and then 5-PW (or 4-PW) in either MP-4 or MP-54. I'll add either a 50* 588 RTX to match my current wedges or go T4 to more closely match the irons.

My all time favorite set of irons are my MacGregor 1025M blades. Since those I have played various models of "players cavity back" irons and watched my GIR slowly slide. That said, I'm trying to be realistic about my ability to practice enough to go back to a muscle back blade.

The hard part will be picking a shaft. I'm shaft schizophrenic.

If the demo has the screw on shaft fitting, that will change the feel of all Mizuno irons.

OK...so I dropped by PGATSS on Saturday to get a shaft pured. I had a bout a 15 minute wait. I asked one of the club sales guys if they had the MP-4 head in and they did. Said he was so excited and was ready to buy a set himself....until he hit it. Complete disappointment and said he wanted my opinion.

He was not wrong. I've been playing MP-68s since the month they were released 4 years ago...I've been dying to get these MP-4's. These do not feel like Mizuno. Clicky, harsh, not good.

I'm going to try these again when I get back from vacation and I'm hoping that my first impression was wrong. I was shocked, disappointed, and sickened. My 68's are 10x the club that these are.

Anyone else hit them???

4's are on order. KBS X. Been in 68's since they came out with KBS Stiff.. Tried 64's...didn't like.
Funny, I found the 4's with KBS X to be "easier" to hit, read better ball contact striking, then my older 68's with KBS Stiff. Surprised me hugely. I guess my swing sucks so bad, the shaft stays with me better. It also seemed to feel the 4 more forgiving.
Incredible sound!
What has me somewhat curious...any head in a KBS shaft, compared to a DG, will swingweight 2 points or so less. My 68's had to be requested heavier as they always came in at D0 with 1/4 inch over. This was across multiple sets. I noticed same with 69 sets. When I came back from demoing the 4 on the standard length KBS X, I checked SW before I ordered, as the demo felt great and I suspected the typical lighter weight SW. Scale says D4.5! I screw on the stiff KBS and check it...D4! I screw on the older 69 head on both...C9 to D0.
I checked the same at another shop...exact same results. What this tells me is that the demo 4 head is much heavier that the previous 68/69/64 heads. Or, they've updated there shaft fittings, but was told shafts are same.
I wonder if Miz has produced heavier heads to accommodate the popular KBS type shafts that have a higher balance point so they don't have to jack the weights up in the assembly of such. Of course, this would mean the DG type shafts would require their B heads to keep the weights down for assembling such.
Sorry, just the way my mind works.
Looking forward to putting the 4's in play!

just got an email from my club guy saying the fitting cart heads arrived today . Going down there Saturday to try them and get my specs dialed in and place an order. Can't wait!
which clubs?
I'm assuming he got all of the new models. MP4, MP54, and the new JPX EZ stuff.

As far as what I am going to order.... not sure. I really want the MP4 (I can always keep my i10 set for those times when I'm a little rusty) or possibly a split set with the MP64 and the MP4. The MP54 isn't really on my radar but definitely will try it out. My club guy talked very highly of it when the Mizuno rep came around and was showing off the new line to accounts. Who knows, it may the ticket.

Only thing for sure is I am ordering the new Kuma cart bag... looks sweet!

Are there pics floating around of the new Mizuno bag offerings? I'm in the market for a new stand bag and have been waiting to see if Mizuno releases something new before pulling the trigger.

I've only seen pics of the cart bag online. I just glanced at the stand bags when i was looking through the book at my clubfitters shop.

I noticed a .5 difference between the MP-4 and the MP-68. The 4's are shorter. Anyone know why that is?

I noticed that too. On the European site the MP-4 are listed as the same length as MP-69. I find it hard to believe they would have different shaft lengths in Europe vs USA.
I am hoping just a typo. I have posted the question on the Mizuno forum, and will report back.

The new MP series irons are about 1/8" shorter in length than the last series (MP 53/63/69). Total weight per club is a couple grams heavier.

I would think this puts them back to stock length in the MP-33 days.

No. The lengths listed on their 54's on the US site are the typical Miz lengths. At least the same as all the umpteen sets I've bought since 2006. The MP 4's are .5 shorter. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my order now. Taken a long time for me to get my length dialed in. If I want my usual 38" 5 iron, I'd have to spec 3/4 inch over. Crazy!
I guess that's why the fitting head SW's out to D4 with the standard length KB shaft as I mentioned in a previous post in this thread.

I have yet to get to a retailer and look at the 54s. For those that have seen in person, are they small compared to the 53? That worries me. I want to go 54, but if the 53 has a slightly bigger head, that might be my best (realistic) route.

My post is there based on measurements from measuring 2 sets of MP-64's against the MP-53, 63, 69, and 59's. All standard length S300 with M31 grips. The tag on the box of MP-64's I have said Retro Length-Standard, the only clue as to why the irons are 1/8" shorter than the last series. Shouldn't be a problem with the 4 and 54 for making a combo set. As its only 2 weeks away till the new sets are in-store, I would wait and measure your current clubs against the store sets for length. Again I measured irons side by side from 6 sets of clubs before making my statement. I'm curious as well to see if the new 4's and 54's are same length as the 64's as I may pick up a couple of 4's in the short irons for a combo set.
