I'm happy to report that my character improved considerably this weekend. I shot an 80 on Saturday which included 4 missed putts of 4' or less. Then I went back Sunday for a late nine and shot 40 which included 3 penalty strokes (two lateral hazards, one water hazard). All in all it was probably my best golf of the year.

Main improvements came from Honesty. Also Integrity -- although if it was up to me I would rename this position (top of swing) "Patience".

And if you play persimmon, you're my friend

Just got back from 9 morning holes at a local course with the full set of Honma vintage clubs. It was 35-37c out there and that's pretty hot for playing golf, however there was a breeze and the course was in lovely condition, the greens with still a little pull-up. The woods went off the tee with a satisfactory "chunk" and the irons were soft and accurate. I took the 1 2 4 7 woods out but only used the 4 once, I will trade that for the 5 next time. Best clubs of the day were the 7 wood and 8 iron, the latter put the ball next to the pin on an approach shot to a par 5. I'm really starting to like the 7 wood.

Score for the 9 holes was 2 pars and the rest one over, off the middle tees.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hospital Stay #3 since mid-August.

Blood clots in both legs again. I was in this time from 10/11 to 10/21/17 (Today.)

I have Lupus and Factor V blood diseases and I'm told I'm on blood thinners for life now.

Could be worse... I'm still on the right side of the grass.

I'm picking up clubs for resale tomorrow and Tuesday. See my blood specialist Doc on Monday so I may actually try to get a round in this coming Wednesday weather permitting. Don't really know at this point exactly what all is in store for me but I am determined to go down swinging (literally) regardless.

Thanks guys. Worst case fears realized. Areas of the island are under massive amounts of water, including the interior or my house and garage. In good spirits, not my first flood-e-o, but, may be my last!!!! I love this darn island, lived here for 40 years, but, am getting too old to keep rebuilding.

How are things going for you?

Indeed! It's quite a rare thing for a man to suffer from Lupus. Best of luck going forward, Tim!

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

Tim,

Thoughts and prayers to you with your ongoing battles.

Ranger,

Recovery process going slower this time around due to:

A). Insurance company overwhelmed with number of claims due to multiple hurricanes occurring within short time span.

B). My contractor of choice was also a flooding victim, so, he’s dealing with his own issues as well.

Didn't all of you play long after dark, feeling where the ball went from your swing? We sure did. :)

Ah, memories of a wasted youth.

Certainly did, and now with advanced cataracts all that 'feeling where the ball went from your swing' has been standing me in very good stead.

And if anyone is wondering why I'm posting at present in one or two areas, it's because I've had one eye fixed and I'm confined to barracks until my 'follow-up' appointment.

So far, so excellent !!

Last night I went out after dark and played the course with just a putter. Last nights score was 150, I'll do the back nine tomorrow night :) :)

I mean, it is what it is, you make adjustments in your routine to accommodate and accomplish your normal daily activities.

I am fortunate that I am able to adapt and overcome, instead of feeling overwhelmed by the situation. Seventeen submarine patrols in my younger days certainly helped prepare my mindset for instances like this.

For me the outcome of the storm was an inconvenience, for others, far worse.

I am blessed.

Nomad,

The Proteus? I know it well. Did a number of refits alongside her in Guam.

I met her in the Holy Loch Scotland 1961 after chasing Ivan_the_diesel out of there. I was EW on a brand new anti-sub at the time.

A cry for help ...

I have been hanging out in watch forums for the last 4 weeks and already have 6 new watches .... watch forums are worse than golf forums for encouraging you to empty your wallet and bank account ...

Someone hide my damn computer !!!! :)

And no it wasn't me that bought the Paul Newman Daytona LOL ...

Can you hit a golf ball with a watch?

If not then get yourself (and your wallet) back over here where it belongs!

It's not all about the score.

Perhaps not, but said watch can aid in telling you how far you need to hit that golf ball... ;)

AS coincidence would have it, I ran into an old pal at the mall this afternoon and he was looking for one of those golf watches. He had only gotten back into the game this year and he was convinced that the golf watch was the reason that the oldtimer in his foursome was always winning!

You've been hanging out with Jack von White for too long. I suppose you will be rocking up in some fancy Merc or Porky next.

Hey Randy, Augie, Kevin & STU!!!

Post some pictures of your SNOW if you have some!!!

Welcome to the "Winter White" club!!!

If I can get my camera phone to hook up with my computer I will. Augie is getting it worse than we are and Randy and them got it bad too. We sorta dodged it we got about 3" of snow sleet mix here. I do not know yet in dirty Myrtle. I did one run yesterday and nothing was falling. I came in and did the pick up on the landfill trailer while we could get it out of the bottom where it sits. We also off loaded it yesterday before the mess hit. The yard closed at 1:00 yesterday and as soon as the crane operator and I got it off loaded and the trailer dropped we hauled arse too. It was starting about 2:00 yesterday and most folks wisely were in so I got home about 2:30. Got the old wood stove fired up too and have not opened the door or went out of the house since. Definitely no trucking today. In fact the owner of the company called me about 3:00 to make sure all the trucks were in safely especially me. He lives kinda across the street from me. I told him what we did and I was in the house with the wood stove cooking. He has done told me stay home

Not to make light of the conditions down your way, as unaccustomed to wintery weather that most folks are in those environs. Ice, always problematic. The snow, pfft. That's a dusting. Gives one some traction over the ice. Hardly worth breaking out the snowblower for. You don't have a snowblower?

Back when I was a working stiff, had to drive to Chicago with some regularity. Could be an adventure driving I-94 in the winter from about Watervliet to Gary due to the lake effect. Right at the lake, hardly anything. Ten miles inland, slammed.

Yup - and I saw a couple weeks ago there was a 50 some car pile up around Van Buren county on 94. Made the trip 2 times a week from MSU to Benton Harbor when I was in school, regardless of the weather - plenty of snow & ice.

Spring '75 there was a blizzard so bad State cancelled classes. Kegs sold out before 10 am.

Except for Colt 45 - dat dere is some good stuff on tap!

Ha! Remember that one, it was like in April IIRC (yep, 4-2-75). 17". Had to cancel classes, that the administration never ever wanted to do. We were living in house out on Abbot. Had to make a mad dash to the party store for supplies (beer, junk food, TP) before conditions got really bad. In a housemates junker car that barely could get through the snow. You're right, the beer coolers had been nearly cleaned out by the time we got there. Seems we ended up buying cases of crappy Falstaff or something like it. Ha! Hadn't thought of this in years.
