OK, £20 is $32.33 U.S. at the current exchange rate. About $8 a sleeve and $2.69/ball.

There are waaaaaaaaaaay too many lakes, OBs in people's yards, and hazards to risk my retirement. :swoon:

Balls are waaaaaaaaaay more expensive in UK than USA. New, used, For instance that 20 quid a dozen is the usual price for DT Solos.

And if you think that's hight, try pricing a 1,900 square foot detached house on a 1/3 acre lot in a suburb somewhere in England...

Srixon Z Star SL for me. Mid capper. 89-92 mph driver. 145y 7i. Enough spin around the greens. Drop and stop approaches. Low spin off driver. Most durable urethane I've come across. Best of all. $25-29 right now.

Stock up. They're discontinued.

I read a post a while back where somebody asked Srixon about the SL on their Facebook page. Srixon apparently said a decision on the SL hadn't been made yet. If memory serves me right I think the SL came out one year after the 2011 Z stars. So perhaps they will either retool the ball in 2014 or just let it die off. I did read on here that Srixon said the 2013 Z star has a little lower compression than the 2011 version and Srixon felt it took the place of the SL. I played the SL side by side with the 2013 Z Star and felt the SL played much softer off the irons. I prefer the softer feel. Hopefully they keep the SL alive but like you mentioned I doubt it.

I like the Srixon Z-Star. The color is a yellow to almost lime. Great looking ball. Excellent value over the Pro Vs. May not fly as far as the Pro Vx but almost as far and sounds great off of the club. Harder shell makes it more durable so you can play with it longer. Stops on the greens as unless if you like hitting with spin. I tried Calloway Chromes also, which are also good balls. Doesn't seem to fly as far. And I think the ball is TOO yellow.

Srixon Z series are extremely durable and the color doesn't fade. Hex Chrome doesn't hold color as well, but are really good balls. Titleist Tour S I don't like at all, the Duo was one of the worst balls I've ever tried, so soft there is no feel to them. And, as a leaf issue, yellow is harder to find, as are some orange balls I've tried.

I've found that if the sun is at your back, most yellow balls really pop out of the leaves like tiny little suns. Orange do too, but not nearly as much. If it's cloudy, or your looking into the sun, they're actually a little harder for me to spot than white. I found a pink Lady IQ+ and it might be the easiest of them all to find...but not sure I want to play it. They make me feel like I'm playing putt putt.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just received a a sleeve from Titliest to test in Optic yellow. Nothing on them other than test, so no idea what they were, ProV, NXT, ect., but the ball performed well and the "color" was by far the most findable of any yellow ball I have played. I had been playing the yellow version of Wilson's Duo which turned out to be a good cold weather ball. The Titlest sleeve was better, performance wise and visually.

Sure would be nice if they were a Pro V. I'd try the Pro V1x if if came in that optic yellow colour. I've recently been playing the NXT Tour S in yellow. An all-round, very playable ball. However, someone commented that the Pro V wasn't on the yellow radar. Oh well.

I can see them so much better, if pro v does not come in yellow next yr I am going to play something yellow, what are the thoughts around the best top line yellow ball
[/quote] I totally agree with you about yellow balls - they simply show up better on the fairways. I contacted the folks at Titleist, and they stated that they have no immediate plans to come out with a yellow Pro V. Too bad. I think they're really missing the boat.

Really liked the FG Tour yellows.
Have also gamed the Srixon Z-Stars and they're quite good as well.
Gotta give the nod to the Wilsons, surprisingly. Love that soft feel.
Z-star Yellows are so durable though.
I'd play either, no problem.
Hmmm...Chrome+ getting lots of love. Might have to look into those.

I really like the performance of the yellow Callaway Hex Chrome+. This is coming from a 4 handicapper that only plays Prov1s and Prov1xs.
