Northwest Phoenix recommendations

Hey all,

I've been playing all over the Valley the last year. I recently moved downtown from Ahwatukee.

I'm interested in playing the Northwest side near Sun City/Peoria. I'm tired of forking out the big dough being charged for the Snowbirds...

I need a list of must play courses...

Help a brother out here...

If you live downtown, you are pretty close to two of the better deals in the winter: Aguila and Vistal

Buy the city card, aguila becomes a little cheaper and you save tons at Papago.

Thanks fore.

I've played Aguila, nice track. Papago several times. I love that course. I've also got the city card.
I'm looking to get out toward Sun City and Peoria...

In order of my favorites valuewise:
Copper Canyon
Trilogy Vistancia
Union Hills
Corte Bella
Quintero
Westbrook Village (Lakes is a little nicer)

If you really want to make a trip, play Los Caballeros in Wickenburg, tons o fun.

Thanks! I few of those are on my radar screen just from the research I have done.

There are a group of Greg Nash designed courses in Sun City Grand that are above average and last I checked, not too expensive. Cimmaron, Desert Springs, Granite Falls North and South...

Hillcrest was always a good option but my last visit in Jan '13 it was in awful condition. Don't know what the current status is.

A great fun course at Blackstone, it's private but has not been too hard to access during the downturn.

A couple of budget options - Coyote Lakes and Arizona Traditions. Don't expect a lot.

Appreciate the insight.

My partner and I are going to play Raven at Verrado on Sunday. A little further out, but the reviews are great lately.

Understanding you don't want the big dollar courses, here's my insight, some of which has been echo'd in this thread:

Granite Falls North is actually a pretty decent track. I enjoy it, but I want to say it goes private in the winter. I've only played it in the summer.
Westbrook Village Lakes is decent as well.
Union Hills CC can be had for cheap, and is worth the $40 and under you'll pay. Ideal golfer just ran a $19 special, but I believe the deal expired now. I grabbed 4 of them.
Hillcrest is hit or miss. Not a horrible layout, but the pace of play as well as the shape of the greens is always a little iffy. I might pay $35.
Coyote Lakes has some fun holes. I wouldn't pay more than $30 here. The range has flight limited balls...horrible ones at that.
PalmBrook CC- similar to Union Hills, maybe a little more wide open. Decent if under $40. Pace can be bad with the age of play and typical 2females/2males groupings.

Also add Corte Bella...I've seen some hot deals on golf now that are definitely worth the under $50 price. I've never played it in the winter months but could only hope it's in great shape with the golf club fees and hoa fees they bring in.

I've never played Copper Canyon but have heard nothing but solid reviews on it if you're ok with the drive out there.

Corte Bella is in awesome shape during the winter. Pace of play is typically very good too. It seems there is always a game or league going on in the morning and that the members rarely seem to tee off after 12. Certain days they run shotgun starts in the morning and afternoon.

N_O you need to get out to Copper Canyon. One of my favorite tracks. Usually a HotDeal tee time to be had once a day.

Some of the Sun City Grand courses do go private during the winter and take their tee times off of Golfnow. You can still call and they will get you out there if times are available. I recommend Desert Springs, Cimmaron and both Granite Falls Courses, GF south course is one of the most wide open courses I have ever played, a true sprayers course, a must if you need to work on the driver!

Thanks everyone for all your input. I'm not totally against putting up some money for a nice track...
Just in the Valley, I play them most in the summer.

Well...I'll take that back in the case of Torrey Pines. I played there a little over a month ago and paid up for a "bucket list" course.
The course was in horrible shape....couldn't believe that they let it go like that given the price. It must be a local economy thing. Maybe the city doesn't have the funds....
