Aldila Rip Tour 115 Iron Shaft Discontinued?

I haven't heard anything, but they seem to be getting hard to find. They're no longer on Aldila.com, GS does not list them and GW only has certain lengths. Anyone have knowledge on this?

Yes, they have been discontinued.

Direct from Aldila (Feb 22nd):

The RIP Tour irons have been discontinued. We still have shafts available, in both weights and all flexes. We are going to introduce soon, the Rogue Tour iron. The will be available in 95 and 115 grams. They should be available in April. We hope this helps you out.

In addition they let me know that the new Rogue Tour irons will be softer (I interpret as more true to flex) than the rip irons.

I was afraid so. I just ordered another set of 115 Rs, 4-pw for safe keeping. The Rogue iron shaft may end up fine, but softer may not suit me. Better to have a set on hand.

Thanks,

Probably mean you'll just have to go back to stiff instead of playing Reg's, but if you're happy with the RIP's sounds like a good idea. I never got along great with the Rip's (still playing and prefer the older vs-proto iron shafts), so looking forward to see what the Rogue iron shafts will be like.

I divide the shaft tip into three small areas.

Sand lightly 3 times twice and single .less as you get further from the tip.

Lightly sand the whole area and test fit.

Make sure the shaft bottoms out.

Repeat lightly if necessary.

If I'm reading this correctly, that's not the way to add a proper taper to the tip of a graphite shaft. It's a common misconception but actually the proper taper is not a gradual decrease in diameter over the whole tip of the shaft. It's only the very last 1/2" that should be tapered. The rest should stay at .370.

Looking forward to hearing more about the Rogue Tour iron shafts. Only Rogue shaft info I can find is on Golfworks for the Rogue Pro, which are trim to fit .370 and 85 grams.

I'm okay with tapering myself, although that's a downside in my opinion, but I would prefer a constant weight design. Both Steelfiber and Recoil taper tip shafts are made to discrete lengths and weights which is nice.

If anyone has more info about these new Rogue shafts please post it up.

Says its constant weight, so I wonder why they would cut to discrete lengths but use .370 for the tip. Odd

All graphite shafts will generally come out of production as a .370 parallel, only the single length offerings have to stay at .370. Adding the taper is an additional step that's done for taper tip offerings. So doesn't really cost or hurt them in any way to offer it in parallel.

In the past, they've offered discrete length iron shafts in both parallel and taper tip (NV and VS-Proto iron shafts). I don't know but I would not be surprised if in the near future they expanded their offering to include both for the Rogue Tours as well.

A sad development!

I have played the RIP 115 S at 1/2" over since they came out, judging them far superior in minimal dispersion and distance control, to any other graphite or iron shaft I'd played recently. My pro plays the RIP 115 X.

Previously played KBS C-Taper, but never even picked one up again after trying the RIP 115. I found the RIP cut the C-Taper's dispersion in half and were a 1/2 club longer.

New shaft are said to be flighted, and it appears that it is a cheaper to manufacture, lower quality product.

I guess there wasn't a market for expensive graphite iron shafts!

I have secured a spare set of S and may buy more.

I played RIP iron shafts when they first came out. I got a TX model and hot dang those suckers were like rebar but way too light. I tried the Rogue Tour Iron at the PGA Demo Day this year and it felt more in line with the flex and weight I'd expect from a graphite iron shaft. Wasn't blown away with them but they are nice and reminded me a bit of a Recoil. Maybe a hair less spin.

Was more impressed with the green NV 2K15 or whatever the new one is called. Lower launch and smooth feel like the original NV. Rogue-esque with lower flight and spin. How the ATX Tour Green should have been IMO.

RIP 115 gm shafts are counterweighted to yield the same swing weights as Dynamic Gold steel shafts.

Played on Tour by several players, including great iron player Boo Weakly.

Must have something good going......

Counterbalanced? You sure? The only way the shaft can swingweight similar to DG is if the balance point is LOWER, not higher.

You can't make constant weight from a single raw length. You are trimming more weight off as you shorter length.

That constant weight part I get - it's why I hate when companies offer their graphite iron shafts in a 42" blank that you have to trim yourself, you just lose so much weight in the short iron.

I found it odd, as another poster noted, that given that they're noting that it's going to be offered in constant weight, that they wouldn't offer them pretapered in addition to parallel - as they always have.

I'm hopeful and guessing that when they come out, that's probably what they'll do, because I hate tapering shafts myself.

Best shaft I've ever hit. However, I understand their desire to tweak the flexes, as the regular is nearly identical in flex/profile to a C-Taper in stiff. The reg was perfect for me at a 90mph 6 iron speed.

Sorry - thanks for correcting that - tip heavy, not counter weighted!

Well, the love for the RIP Tour sort of reminds me of the Black Gold. You guys might want to stock up. Now is the time. Good news is they are not overly expensive so socking away 2-3 sets won't break the bank.

  • 1 month later...

I just ordered a set of RIP 115 X flex shafts. I was thinking of tossing them in a mint set of MX-200 irons I have laying around. I'm a little nervous about the X flex after reading some posts. I play the PXi 7.0's currently and have no problem with them. Are these shafts spin killers? Should I just order a set of MP5 irons and be stick these in? I'm torn...
