Switching from Project X LZ to Project X or C Taper?

cvvorst

Recommended Posts

I've been playing Project X LZ 6.5 iron shafts for a season or two. I like the feel, and they are pretty good in regards to performance. But, it seems like if my tempo is off at all my misses are larger than they should be. I'd be happy to give up some feel for even a little more stability/control.

The ball flight from the LZ can be a little high, and spin a bit much.

I have a quick tempo.

I don't know if it matters, but I can add my distances if it helps.

My question is, have others switched from a "softer" shaft like the PX LZ to the C Taper or Project X with good results? Can I expect a bit more stability and control? Or is it more a "feel" thing than anything?

I had the LZ 6.5 for awhile, and I had the same problem as you. High ball flight and high spin...made playing on a windy day a nightmare.

Ended up reshafting with SSx1 Project X 6.5s, and I liked them, but didn't care for the feel. I did lose a few yards too, but it was probably since the LZs did load quite a bit better for me. The stability of the Project X shafts have always been great for me. I had the same problem with the Px as the LZs though..a bit off on the timing would lead to pretty large misses.

I have c-taper s+ shafts coming in soon, and I am hoping these will be the shafts for me.

Not sure how old you are but I wish your joints the best of luck. I’m only 35 and sadly I couldn’t handle the C-Taper. Caused me terrible pain in the top of my left hand of all places for months. Went away from them, got another set of irons with them about a year later and the pain came back after only one round. Disappointing too because I LOVED the performance.

I have gone the other way into the PXLZ, as the PX 6.0 for me as I age was a little too stout. The PX and the CT are both great point and shoot shafts, they lower ball flight and spin. Just be aware that they are rather harsh on your joints as the poster above mentioned. I ran into elbow issues with the 6.0, but that is because I am old and play more than my fair share. My buddy uses the CT 130X and loves them - wouldn't change at all. He moved into these a few years ago out of S300's. Good luck - enjoy the hunt.

C taper sounds like one of the most stable shafts out there, so I have high hopes! I'll try and come back here to post my experience, but if you end up swapping I'd love to hear what you think.

I'm not quite 35, but you do have me a little worried! Plus I play a winter league, I'm a bit of a digger so I have to be careful not to practice on a mat too much or else my wrist gets a little bit off.

Yeah I might end up switching back to the LZ or possibly trying some Nippon, but I figure I should try something a bit more stable just to see.

I went the opposite direction as well. 4 years of ctaper 130x before my hands and elbows could no longer stand it.

The c taper are amazing in the wind and very low spin. I personally think the LZ 6.5 move a little more in the air but are still straighter if that makes any sense. The LZ May curve 2-3 yards on “straight” shots but the misses never go crazy. The good ones with ctapers were laser beams but i could hook them off the planet as well.

I also hated 1/2 and 3/4 shots with Ct as they lack feel.

I do still play a ctaper s+ in my 4i to keep the spin down and lower flight. It’s a very good shaft.

For the guys that are hitting them high I'm assuming your saying your peak height is over 100ft and your spinning the ball over a full club (6 iron spinning over 6500) is that correct?

I was watching Henrik Stenson this weekend hitting iron shots around 120-130 feet high. If only he could flight it lower like the Golfwrx guys!

I played the LZ 6.0 in some AP2s for a while. Loved the feel but to my eye, they did fly a bit higher than I was used to coming from PX 5.5 Flighted shafts in my 745s, but, different animals. I though the LZ was one of the most accurate shafts I ever played, I don't know what it was but they were like point and shoot, I might like to give them another shot. But if you're looking for something else, something in the Nippon family might feel as good/better and perform better. The Modus 120 stiff is very close to the 6.0 LZ performance just maybe flies a little lower, for me. What about the X100?
