MP18 that are MIA

Bought these from @Leakywader back in april he said his paypal had been frozen and saw he was a trusted seller and made other arrangements. HE said he would ship them and it took some 7-10 days for his wife to ship them and needless to say they never showed up. I have tried to get information from him but he will not respond to emails, msg or texts.

He said he lived in Nashville but they were shipped from Alabama and the box weighed only 7lbs. Still waiting on USPS to do an investigation but want to get this resolved asap.

Easy solution, file a PayPal claim. Thanks for the heads up on the seller. Sure wish the feedback system was back to better protect the field.

Alabama, huh? This scenario seems strangely familiar. Hope you used PayPal goods and services, like the guys above said - you should have filed already. I’m surprised there haven’t been more of these threads with the state of the BST right now.

Btw, 7 pounds doesn’t sound like a strange weight for a set of irons. I recently shipped a set of Srixon 545 5-pw, and if I remember correctly, they were just a shade under 8 lbs.

I am curious to hear the sellers side of this. I always find it bizarre when someone who’s been around as long as he has, and has a couple hundred feedback (100% positive) over a decade on eBay, would go rogue and just up and decide to stop painting inside the lines. Makes me wonder if there’s not a good reason for his disappearance. I hope he’s ok. His activity on eBay seems to have ceased since last April.

Curious - I know you said he’s stopped responding to messages, but have you sent him a link to this thread? I’d send him a link via every means possible. He’d certainly be aware of this thread’s existence, and whether or not he wants to participate will say a lot about him.

I’d also reach out to the others who commented on his BST listing. Surely someone else bought from him - I wonder what their experience was? Maybe he screwed someone else over also. Sometimes shear numbers can put enough pressure on someone to surface.

One more thing - PLEASE MAKE RETURNING THE FEEDBACK SYSTEM A PRIORITY!

It continues to amaze in situations like this why many people don't want to or are hesitant to file a PayPal claim. Unless the buyer paid with F&F (or a payment service that offers no buyer protection like Venmo, etc) there is no reason not to open the claim. The USPS isn't going to help solve this.

Can the the USPS even do anything for the seller, other than maybe try to track the item for him? Wouldn’t it be up to the seller to file an insurance claim with the USPS, assuming he sent with Priority Mail, for whatever insurance he had on the item? There’s really no good reason not to just go ahead with a PayPal claim and let the seller deal with getting his money back from the USPS, unless the OP paid with Friends & Family.

OP, am I reading the story correctly - seller told you his PayPal account was frozen so you paid by another means? I'm just trying to understand because that's how I read it and yet everyone keeps saying you should just file a PayPal claim. Can you clarify please? If you didn't use PayPal, what did you use and who suggested it? Thank you.

I'd imagine it was paid via Venmo.

USPS can't really do much other than confirm where the package was delivered. Based on the OPs original post it appears he didn't pay with PayPal. Probably used Venmo, Apple Pay, etc. Likely one of the services that WRX has pinned messages about warning people to not use for B/S/T transactions. Good luck to the OP.

Used venmo and others have had a positive experience with him using venmo so was not too concerned but my problem on that front for sure.

:'(

Hopefully the seller comes through because otherwise your money is as good as gone. Since Venmo acts like a wire transfer, as soon as the money is out of the "Venmo balance" it's no longer able to be reversed. Even when it is still in their balance, the reversal has to be authorized by both parties.

@abergervt , any chance you used a credit card to fund the transaction through Venmo? If that is the case, I would immediate contact your credit card company and see if you can dispute the charges and have them issue a charge-back against Venmo. That way it then becomes the sellers issue to deal with Venmo and not yours.

Yeah that is where you went wrong. THe BST rules are clear, only Paypal Goods and Services. If his paypal was frozen that should have been a huge red flag.

Can we start banning people who pay with Venmo and other means that offer no protection, sort of like natural selection? I'm sick of reading these threads once a week.

That would be nice, but I think a lot of riff raff got through when the site was updated. The big pinned post should help with that now

If there were ever a time to err on the side of caution when buying and selling on the BST, it is now. With a total lack of accountability, it’s the perfect opportunity for those guys close to the fringe to cross over to the other side.

Not that there’s a good excuse to use a payment method with no protection at any time.

He quickly replied to me denying that he sent the wrong item, he said he would submit a claim with usps, i told him the right thing to do would be to refund me the $ and work with USPS himself to get refunded. I have not gotten a reply since.

I'm a bit late to post, but my jaw dropped when I read venmo, on a new MP18 set no less.

Can you share the tracking# and/or original post pictures if you have them? I would be actively calling USPS to figure out what happened. It is really odd that this is the only transaction with an issue, I would guess the seller sold it to two different members/sources at this point.
