Hybrid to replace 4/5 wood

Has anyone here replaced their 4/5 wood with a low lofted hybrid (17*)? I have been struggling mightily with my 3 wood and found that I actually would benefit from a 4/5 wood from a distance perspective more. that said, i have never been a great fairway wood player but have a couple hybrids now that work well for me and for my style of golf tend to work better out of the rough, etc.... Looking for everyone's feedback on this as I will likely be replacing my 3 wood with a 17* hybrid in the near future. Specifically I am looking at the Titleist TS2 once its release as i have 2 of the 816 H1's now.

I play H1 and love it. That said, for straight up distance a wood wins all day. Unless you are a really high speed player, lower lofted hybrids can be tough. Try a 917 5 wood or 4 wood. You'll be surprised at how much easier they are to hit. Also, I find that turning the loft down really helps as the back of the club interacts less with the ground. When I changed my 4 wood down to 15.75 I started hitting it WAY better than when it was at standard loft.

This leads to less distance and less playability in terms of stopping it on greens. Try a 917 5 wood or 4 wood. You'll be surprised at how much easier they are to hit. 4/5Ws are usually easier to hit off the deck than a 3W because they are typically shorter, heavier, and have more loft.

Unless you've got a lot of swingspeed a 17* hybrid is going to be tough to get airborne unless you play it overlength, at which point the lie angle will be wrong at which point you might as well be play a 4W.

I played a 16* Adams Pro A12 hybrid for a good stretch and absolutely crushed that club. I parted ways with it however, because it was very nearly fairway wood distance for me. Having said that,as others have said, lower lofted hybrids do take a little bit of speed to be effective. Think of them as the long iron version of a hybrid. If, however you carry some swing speed into the ball and are a pretty good ball striker, you shouldn't have any issues. At present, I don't carry any hybrids; I go driver, 5 wood (lofted down), 4 iron - pitching wedge then my wedges.

I had a 4/5 Wood TS2 that I tried to get along with but the 818H2 I have now works for everything. Sure the 4/5 wood gets up perfect off a decent lie. But put it in the rough and for me it performs better than a 4/5 wood. However if distance off the tee and middle of the fairway is concerned a 4 wood that can be adjusted to a lower loft would fit the bill.

Golf studies show the average golfer can hit a 4W more reliably - and sometimes longer - than a 3W. The extra loft really helps with launch.

I’m in same dilemma. Have a ts2 13.5 and deciding between a 5 wood or 17/18 hybrid in new ts hybrid. I think shaft Weight and flex would be more important than swing speed unless your slow

Judging by the range session I’ve just had my new G410 19*, set at 17.5* is going just as far as my Cobra King Ltd 4/5 on standard 17.5* setting. The Wood flies higher and carries 10y further but I suspect the lower flight of the hybrid will roll out more.

5 wood was a M3 and now it's been replaced with a 17* Ping Anser. I think I got $120 for the M3 and spent $30 on the Anser.

Personally I could never control/launch a hybrid with less than 19* of loft very consistently. I recently have gone back to putting a 5w in the bag for the first time since I was about 14 years old.

Currently game Driver-3w (set at 14*) - 5w (18*) - 4h (21*)

A hybrid with that little loft is going to be really really low spin in comparison to a fairway wood in the same loft just due to the construction and volume of the head.
