Cobra King PUR wedges versus King MIM

Can anyone compare the two? I played the PUR's and loved them. I replaced them recently because they were getting old and had lost a bit of spin (replaced with Mizzy T20's) but the PUR's were sweet. I'm wondering how the MIM's compare. I've tried the King Blacks and don't like the feel of them at all--hard/clicky and not the same as the PUR's at all IMO. Thanks.

You got it right on this. The Cobra PUR were awesome soft and spun well. I too tried the MIM silver and didn't like them for me they lacked spin and feel was off.

Oh sorry mis-read. Ive never gamed the king blacks. My comparison is only with the MIM's. I was also trying to replace the PUR's and was hoping the MIM's were as good or better but that was not the case for me.

I have both the T20's and MIM wedges. Won a free full set of Cobra clubs so thats why I have them.... T20's are better in every way. Better feel, look, spin, performance. With the lockdown and restrictions I only have 2 rounds with the MIM but I think they feel on the firmer side. Ive never played he PUR's so I cant compare but I personally would not buy the MIM

I play a MIM 60 at 58*. I have played with and bent every iron/wedge manufacturer known to man, mainly because I have owned a set of clubs from pretty much every manufacturer.

The MIM wedges are the easiest to bend I have ever put my hands on. Before this the Bridgestone J40 CB's were the easiest clubs I had ever bent. I know softness/feel is in the eye of the beholder, but they are without a doubt the softest wedges I have ever played.I am not a fan of them with standard bounce configurations, that's because of my delivery not anything they do "wrong". I had the same issues with the PUR wedges. So the sole and bounce configuration is similar to the PUR.The amount of surface area that can be covered by grooves is limited by USGA rules, so if you broke the rules you could use grooves to cause more backspin. However, they clear debris/water out of the way to help with fliers. Rough faces, which every manufacturer uses can augment spin as well. If you think one wedge companies wedges "way out Spin" another companies wedges, well then stop asking for help on here, your perception is pretty much wrong. The CoG, Shaft, Length, bounce of one club can cause you deliver it differently which then can cause one to spin a little more than another, but in a like for like scenario, It's just not going to happen.Wedges fittings are not really worth anything off of mats, try to find somewhere that can do it outdoor. The CoG, bounce, shaft, and length can change your delivery for what works best for you. One club's face really doesn't spin appreciably more than another companies.

I played one PUR 56 wedge and it was very good. One of the best-feeling wedges I have played. This thread is interesting because all I have heard about the MIM is how soft it feels at impact, softer than the PUR, which is the opposite of what I’m reading here. And I typically find the Mizuno T wedges to be on the firmer side and usually don’t like them as much as their S lineup. I thought the Mizuno S5 was a really good wedge.

Well as you can see above your post I think it is the softest wedge I have ever hit. I have played or tried Callaway, Clly forged, Titleist, Cleveland, TM, Mizuno, Bridgestone, Scratch. Vega, Muira and the MIM felt softer than them all.

With the new MIM tech, it’s hard to believe there is not much out there in terms of reviews either on YouTube or to read online. Usually reviewers will jump at the chance to test.

I had a some PUR wedges and really liked them as well. Look so good in the bag, behind the ball and felt great. The only reason I did not hold onto them was the Bridgestone wedges I played at the same time were as good.

I'll have to give the MIM's a try. I'll have the T-20's for the next year or so, at least. I like the T-20's, but the PUR's were softer, and that is the feel I like in a wedge. Prior to the PUR's, I had Cally Mack Daddy 2's and I loved those wedges as well.

I'd appreciate knowing which 2020 wedges feel like the PUR's or MD 2's. It sounds like for some of you that is the MIM, so if I get the chance I'll have to demo them.

I am intrigued by this wedge setup. Love to hear your thoughts on it.

Well my thoughts are that was two years ago, LOL.

I change wedges every year since I hit them a lot and wear through them pretty quickly.

I still believe based on my limited testing of wedges that in dry conditions most wedges are all gonna spin about the same.  Is there a difference?  Sure, but it's not huge.  Getting the right shaft, weight and bounce is the most important thing.

Now in wet conditions based on testing I have seen different companies absolutely make a difference.  If I decide to play in some higher level events on the state level this year this will be a consideration, but doubtful considering my general disdain for practice.
