New 2006 Odyssey XG putters!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Callaway rep came by my home course today and he was nice enough to let me take pictures of new Odyssey XG putters. I think I'm in love with one of those new XG #7 putters, it's so easy to line up and the new XG White Hot insert seems to feel firmer than older White Hot insert that I had hard time with it's speed. I've enclosed a picture of SRT 2 ball putter and couple of picture of entire Odyssey XG lineup. #6 looks pretty funky but felt nice.

They will be out on April 15th.

Enjoy the pictures!!!

Wow, I'm not really a fan of goose-neck shafted putters (i.e. most mallets) but I reckon that #7 looks pretty good. Insert on them looks good too.

Good job br61. Nice pics.

Hey br61... Did you get a chance to try them out much (probably quite a task with so many pieces!).

The 2-ball SRT looks pretty interesting to me. I used to use a White Hot 2-ball Blade but had poor distance control on long putts with the insert. The dark finish on the DFX was nice, but I thought the insert was a little on the hard side (I sound like Goldilocks now). The White Steel 2-ball was perfect (at least in the store), but I didn't like the bend shaft. A couple of months ago, Odyssey put out a White Steel 2-Ball Blade II which had my beloved crank neck. And then the SRTs!

I tried out the 3-ball SRT and found that it was really better than the Blade II, much more stable but with good feel. I don't know about the large size, so I was very curious about how the 2-Ball SRT will feel. If it captures most of the stability of the 3-Ball then it might be a winner for me. When I was at the store, I tried out the Ping UG-LE, just on a lark and found that it really suited my eye well, so I did buy one of those. But since I haven't filled a room completely with putters here yet, perhaps there's room for one more!

I noticed a couple of the amateurs using the 2-ball SRT last week at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

I don't think White Hot XG is out yet but I know SRT is out in certain circles. I tried out several putters and to be honest with you, that 2 Ball SRT did not suit me as much as that 3 Ball SRT putter. The 2Ball SRT just looks kinda fat looking to me while the 3Ball SRT seems to align much better. The problem might be is that 3Ball SRT putter will take up lot of bag room.

I agree with you about original White Hot's distance control, I had hard time with 2Ball White Hot putter too and I think this new White Hot XG should improve that distance control due to it's firmer feeling insert or as it seems that way when I putted with it on putting clock. Perhaps somewhat softer than DFX insert as best as I can remember since it's been a year or so since I've used a DFX putter. I think those new diagonal insert pattern might have a role of putting a better roll on the putts.

Those XG are emm interesting let's say. Not sure about them but the 2-Ball SRT looks sweet. The more pictures I see of it the more and more I want one. Thanks for the pics.

nice looking putters, thanks for the pics... anyone have a clue as to what the price-points are going to be for these things?

Retail price of $150, I think.

Those are very nice, thanks for the pics. Seems everyone is going to some kind of grooves/etching on the face, with or without an insert. The #7 looks like it'll help you open stubborn jars as well as make putts. Which could come in very handy when mixing manhattans and the new jar of olives won't come open.

  • 4 weeks later...

I was able to stroke quite a few of the XG line this weekend and even was able to compare them directly with my current White Hot. The insert is slightly but noticeably more firm (which is good in my opinion) and the texture/milling pattern in the sweet spot GREATLY improved initial roll. I picked up the #2 and promptly sunk the first 2 putts, 15 footers with 2-3inches of left to right break. I was sold! These putters really are a significant improvement on what IMHO was already a great product. The finish is better for glare also.

No problem with your opinion bashing these XG putters but do you mind speaking real English since many of us are trying to decipher your short messaging gibberish?
