What is the best way to get rid of face scratches on Ping irons?

I spend I a lot of time hitting sandy range balls with my Ping G20 irons. What is the best way to remove the scratches? Should I wet sand them with fine grit sand paper or maybe use scotch brite? I appreciate any suggestions.

Looks like there is a dark finish on them? Sanding would remove all that as well

you really need to ensure that you sand with a flat surface (you don't want an uneven face). if you sand a little you will take off the finish as stated above so you almost want to sand the entire face. You could use a file and then go thru sand paper from 180-400 or so on a sanding block.

At least you don't have a set of S55s like I did that had a defect known as delamination. The finished plating covering the cast club head was literally coming off. PING wear very poorly.

 

There really isn't anything to do about the scratches but hit more balls or replace with a 46 degree wedge that matches your other wedges. Good luck.

Call Ping customer service. I don't know if their club refurish would take them off. Or they might have some suggestions.

Why even worry about removing scratches? Those are battle scars! Wear them with pride! Seriously though, it's a piece of metal hurtling at a dense plastic object that is resting on the ground. It's going to get a little knicked up.

Stop hitting sandy range balls. Unless you do that, what's the point of going to the trouble of re-finishing them?

 

Those scratches are right into the metal. You are going to have to file/grind/mill off a few thousands of the face to make them disappear.

I know how to solve this, buy the same exact wedge and only use it for your rounds, and then use this wedge as your range wedge. Did I win?

That's where clubs are supposed to wear, on the face....someone on GolfWRX said, 'tools not jewels', not sure I'd mess with those, or send out for refinishing.

You are correct they are just scratches but winter is here and my golf season is over. I just wanted to give them one last good cleaning and freshen them up before I put them away for next season.

To do the job properly you will have to sand out the scratches with progressively finer sandpaper. I'd start with 100 and then move to 220 and lastly 320. Then mask up the club, all but the face, and have them glass bead blasted. Oh, and you may as well sand out any scratches on the sole as well. Sounds like a fun project.

sounds like a lot of unnecessary work, since the next time a ball is hit with this wedge, it will leave the same types of marking

Am i missing something? Pretty sure the only way not to have those marks is to not use the club.
