Chip Usher is top notch and you cant go wrong with Black Lab. I have 2 C&L putters (his previous company) and the putters are awesome. I absolutely love both of my oil can C&L putters.

 

And I also have 2 Black Lab putters as well. Awesome sticks!

My new putter is on the way and I can't wait for it to arrive. Here are some photos that Chip sent to me a few days ago. The name on the bottom is my dog, Roxie (nickname Roxadoodle), that I recently had to have put down. She'll be with me every time I play!

I received my BL1 (first custom) a couple weeks ago, and now have about 4 rounds on it. It may be a honeymoon period, but this is the sweetest putter I’ve ever used. Certainly the first one in a long time to have a realistic shot at knocking my Newport Beach out of the bag. Like everyone says, Chip was a true pleasure to work with.

Well this looks as good in person...delivered today. Love the weight, feel and sound. Exactly what I was hoping for when I ordered. Took just over 3 weeks from order to receipt.

Curious what a custom putter costs at Black Lab? I’ve also been eyeing Strokes Gained and I’m trying to compare pricing.

between $315-350+ depending on how much custom work he has to do. stamping is going to be included in the base price. the extras are when he has to deviate from the normal designs. i had him grind the back heel some so that may of added $10 or so to my cost.

So with Carbon putters you have to wipe them down and really take care of them to prevent rust correct?

Yes and you can use a gun cloth

Ordered a BL-1 three years ago as a dedication to my boys.

Just ordered a BL-2 yesterday. Once again, Chip was great to work with. Can't wait!

 

Worked with several custom putter makers over the years and both times BLG was the easiest, most courteous and accommodating.

My whole life I've had black labs. Really eyeing a BL-2 with the heel relief and the names of my labs stamped on it.

 

Has anyone ever had them do a long neck mod?

Any of the original group had yours refinished yet? Thinking of sending my BL7 in for a different look. I love the “bluple torch” look but am wanting to try something black or silver.

 

Ultimately just curious for anyone that did if you sent back to Chip or someone like BOS?

Chip did mine in a silverish color he gets done near his place.

Received my refinished from Chip earlier this week. Really happy with the result / look and with going with the satin black finish. Now I just need the weather to start cooperating on a more consistent so I can roll it on something other than my indoor mat.

Got this a couple weeks ago, BL-7 center shaft. A very solid feel for sure. Chip was great to work with. I highly recommend!!
