Ball of choice, with this in mind.....

I am a mid handicap golfer, the things that are important to me more then anything in a golf ball, is low spin off irons(long irons mostly) and that darn shot that when you are off the green and the pin is close to you. I am in no way a spin doctor around the green, so any thoughts on your ball of choice for these shots. I would almost like to have ball that may spin a tad more off driver, just so on the wedge shots I can hold the green for a short putt. Drive for show, putt for dough right? lol thanks guys for any thoughts

I never liked that phrase...driving is hard, putting is easy.

 

Anyway, wouldnt you also want high spin for tucked pin shots so the ball stays put when it lands?

I've played the following balls last season or so.

 

1. Kirkland 3pc Urethane - Not the longest off the tee but just a wee longer through the irons, good spin

2. Srixon Z XV 4pc Urethane - Long off the tee, average on irons, good spin

3. Bridgestone E6 Soft Surlyn - Smidgen shorter off the tee but irons were a club longer, low spin throughout bag

4. Cut Blue (1st generation) 4pc Urethane - Longest ball off the tee, good iron distance but could not putt with this ball

 

I decided to stick with the Kirkland Perfomance+, best all around, I don't really crave the extra yardage off a driver. Iron play is more important to me and this one performed very nicely with irons. I found chipping/pitching and putting the best with the Kirkland as well. The only thing that bothers me about this ball is the relatively High launch off the driver, I may eventually loft down just to see if this helps. Feel is soft...

 

Second best all around that I personally liked was the Cut Golf Blue but could not putt at all using this ball. This was also the highest spinner (as per Foresight monitor). Feel is very firm...

 

The Bridgestone E6 soft with the surlyn cover just would not hold the green on shorter shots but did give me extra distance on irons.

The golf ball feels good, its durable and just a very good above average performing ball from tee to green.

Not sure if it is a current model or previous model but I was given a few Snell MTB Blacks and really liked that ball. It felt good off all the clubs and no issues putting either. I thought it was a very good ball all around, from tee to green!

Im not sure that you are going to find a ball that is low spin off the irons but gives you good spin around the greens.

Disagree. Putting well is just as hard as driving. Poor putting has probably ended more pro careers than poor driving.
