Streamsong 4th Course?

Recommended Posts

Looks like Mosaic has trademarked "The Lido at Streamsong".

https://trademarks.justia.com/864/81/the-lido-at-86481901.html

Talks are of a partnership with Keiser who may (not exactly clear from the article below) have the plans for the original course:

http://www.golfadvisor.com/articles/updates-kohler-sand-valley-bandon-streamsong-14472.htm

I was at Streamsong last Wed-Fri and construction is underway on the road into the Black/Hanse site.

Lido 2018?

Thoughts?

Whatever type course they do next, it will be interesting to see which architect they choose. Do they go back to Coore, Doak, or Hanse? If not, do they stick with a minimalist-type architect (e.g., McLay Kidd)? Or maybe young up-and-comers like King-Collins? If it's a Lido re-creation, Jim Urbina?

I think it is hard to have Bermuda grass and hard and firm fairways that you would expect on a proper links course. You don't really see any true links courses in that climate.

Agree that you will never have a true links course there (I used very poor wording); however Coore and Crenshaw, and Hanse both designed courses that play firm and fast and are open to the ground game (links like).

Correct. It just isnt the same and usually falls on its face.

iono, played streamsong black on saturday; it's been raining so much in central florida last 2 weeks; most clubs were closed or cart path only;

me and buddies had less than 200 yards left on that par5 18th; we are not golfwrx long. there's plenty of sand there. drainage is no issues and it always plays fast and firm.

yep ... need to do a complete 180 from the last 3 courses .... i personally wouldn't mind seeing a true par 3 course that isn't a collection of wedge shots ... but that's just me and not a very popular opinion ...

There isn't eff all else to do out there, so a relief course/beer course could be a goer.

Build 12 holes between 300 & 90yds, don't put 'par' next to them, just number them 1-12, one set of tees per day, and charge per ball in play(with a max of 4 balls in play) instead of per player. Maybe get some takers on a proper foursomes match, for a leisurely wind down to the day.

We have that in the Oasis course down at Diamante and it works out quite well in a couple of ways. When we're down there with friends we find ourselves playing barefoot in shorts and t-shirts carrying around 5-6 clubs between us and a cooler full of beer/margaritas at the end of a day before dinner. I've had an absolute blast doing that.

The other way it works well is when we have family down and take the kids over there. They have fun, we mostly just serve to keep them moving along and laughing. We might play 3 holes or we might play 12 but I rarely hit more than a handful of shots and still have a great time. It also teaches kids that golf can be fun. It wouldn't be common to have kids at Streamsong so that's likely not relevant but when it does occur you at least have something.
