Private Clubs shutting down due to Corona...

Update on PGA West: courses are technically closed, but play by members is permitted at the players' risk. Cups raised 1 inch above ground surface, no rakes in bunkers, no water or ice available, pro shop closed. Guest play not permitted, but no policing to prevent guests. No club-owned carts available. No range balls.

I'm not sure why some courses are eliminating carts. We use one cart per golfer, or walk. Here are our club rules and they appear to be working quite well. We still have quite a few golfers everyday;

Golf Carts: Our team is armed with disinfectant and will be cleaning all of the common touch points on the golf carts before and after each use (Steering wheel, GPS, Sand Bottles, Coolers, Handrails etc.).Golf Shops: Our teams are disinfecting the golf shop(s) constantly throughout the day.Member Check-In: Effective tomorrow, you will no longer need to provide your ticket to the starter. We are still requiring that you check in to the golf shop each time you play but the ticket will be for your records only.Flagstick & Cup: Effective Thursday, March 19th the cups will be placed 1" above the level of the putting surface. If your ball strikes the cup, and stays within your putter length it is considered holed. This will eliminate the need to reach into the cup or touch the flagstick.  Bunkers: Rakes will be removed, our team will continue cultural practices in the bunkers but if you get in a footprint or poor lie, please feel free to improve your lie.Water: The on course coolers have been removed, we will continue to provide bottled water in the carts.Beverage Cart: Service will continue with additional precautions.Comfort Stations: We have a dedicated associate who will be disinfecting the comfort stations throughout the day.

If you aren't healthy enough to walk 9 or 18 you probably shouldn't be on a the course right now.

How So? I realize there are exceptions, but if you are too old to walk or have health issues you are at a higher risk for a serious/death case of the virus.

I guess @mci711 it depends where one lives. Living in western NC, our courses here are crazy hilly and there are lots of elevated tees and greens. In fact in over 18 years of living here, only 1 of 3 courses I regularly play have walkers and that is a private club that allows me to guest play. It’s very flat comparatively speaking. One of the other 2 courses have the local high school matches there and it’s so hilly they actually put a few carts Out to move the kids thru their 9 hole matches more efficiently.

Why? Being outside in the fresh air and sunshine is healthy for everybody.

yes it’s extremely low risk, but a minority will insist on high fiving, touching flags, sharing carts etc etc.

You see the same attitude everywhere that isn’t quarantined. A substantial minority absolutely won’t listen, won’t stay two metres apart, result everyone is locked down for non essential activity. Hasn’t happened yet in the U.K., will this week I think.
