I found these two today.

One of the greatest Opens of the modern area. All documented here by one of the greatest writers about one of the greates players.

 

 

 

 

 

Nice book but no way Feinstein is one of the greatest writers (not even one of the best golf writers).

Does anyone else like the "Eddie Caminetti" novels by Troon McAllisteer? I have 2 of them and want the rest. They crack me up.

Feinstein is good but the greatest golf writer = Herbert Warren Wind. I went back and read all of his Masters and US Open articles he wrote for the New Yorker mag, great stuff.

 

Dont forget Lorne Rubenstein can write a golf book or two as well :)

I found this a while ago and bought it for 2 reasons: 1) The illustrations and text have red ink as Tommy Armour intended and that really makes a difference, and 2) The inscription.

I'm not sure. Wish I had more time over there. Would have loved to walk and photograph Cruden Bay, Carnoustie, Kingsbarn.

There's a gun range (military I think) quite close to Carnoustie - the times I played there it was weird hearing the sound of gunfire in the distance. You'd have felt at home Greg haha.

I just read the Tommy Armour book pictured above and am currently reading Johnny Revolta's "Shortcuts to better golf," from the late 40s. Lots of valuable wisdom in those tomes. I really like how they focus so much on feel, finesse, the mind game and most importantly, scoring, rather than smash factors and launch angles. Focusing on the power game strips golf of its mystique and allure, the things that make it so enjoyable and addictive.
