Any love for the Japan released Gloire Forged Irons? Seem to have some serious $$$ and technology packed in there. Tungsten and the amount and placement changes on every head.

http://tm-gloire.jp/reserve/forged/index.html

  • Soft iron of the face-hosel integrated by (S25C) forging process.
  • The sole, the trajectory height gently By using from about 60 ~ 75g tungsten alloy, and to lower the center of gravity.
  • Achieve an optimal center of gravity by each individual head design differently, tungsten alloy.

I'm sure they are fantastic...

Fantastic enough to overpay?

IMO not a chance.

If they are superior to the technology TM uses in the states... They would use it here...

Otherwise it's another example of overpriced JDM clubs.

The Japan market doesn't have the same sense of design or gag-point on price.

Ten percent of U.S. iron sales are forged, but 40% of the Japan market are forged irons. Even infrequent golfers in Japan will buy quality clubs. The market for cheap clubs is very small in Japan.

Moving weight progressively from the toe to the heel is certainly good for the mid+ handicap player who usually hits a weak fade. Bunkers in front and to the right of greens around the planet are filled with their shots...

They are SGI and they look like it in person. Huge (thick) top line and extreme offset.

Unless you play this type of iron the looks would never sit with you.

Those are the 2013 model.

The 2014 model are much better looking as far as top line and offset go and are even more forgiving
and hotter still but, they are not forged.

You take for granted that the best available tech is always released in the US market? The opposite have been proven for decades, the most advanced tech is for the JDM, and then sometimes released in the US as well, down the road. It's because this kind of tech is expensive, especially when it's newly developed, and so can't be released to the US buyer who on average is very price sensitive. Think of it this way, when developing new stuff for the JDM, all kinds of materials and tech is available for the designer. Price will reflect what they came up with, and the tolerances used in production. For the US market it's "Ok, that, that and that tech or those, those and those materials you can't use, now make a product to this exact price point".

Nope.

If it was superior it would be used by those who make money playing.

Period.

JDM gear is priced how it is because the market will bear those prices.

I wonder what Wishon's opinion on this would be....

They're not designed for tour players; they're designed for amateurs.

Tom Wishon is about as likely to endorse Taylormade products as TaylorMade is going to endorse Tom Wishon's products.

All products in all markets are priced according the market, from chickens to bicycles.

Are you saying that Japanese market products are junk? What is your point?

This is a SGI set. Tour players don't have anything to do with it. Besides, if you really think the clubs you buy are as well made as the clubs tour players use you are delusional. How many examples of tour only heads, shafts etc have you not seen? Hundreds? Tor only iron heads with less offset, tour only diffeent shaped drivers etc etc. Plus if you think tour players can play "whatever they want" then you are very wrong. Tour players on the US tour MUST play stuff that at least looks like the stuff being sold to the US consumer. he players are very much controlled by their contracts. Stenson is a good example, before ha was signed to Callaway he used the JDM Legacy Black irons. I will bet you he won't be playing those now that he is signed by Callaway. He will play a model that is available in the US market. They might try to make it look and feel as as his JDM irons from a players perspective, but the comsetics will be like the USDM stuff

Actually Tom is clearly on the record as being very impressed with TaylorMades sole plate design in conjunction with their adjustable hosel in the R11 and R1 series. Tom is also a vocal believer in Ping and their processes and designs. If it is merited Tom is quick to praise other companies.

Let me tell you what Wooderson is packin'

Ping G410 21°
Ping G425 22°/25°

I am a JDM club fanatic, I have upgraded my honma lb 606 forged irons with the taylormade gloire forged irons. It really annoys me that Americans think that whatever they use must be the best. Nobody in the States pays 400 000 dollars a year for a club membership,, and that is the cheapest membership in Tokyo, most expensive is 3 million per year. When you are paying that amount of money, the clubs you buy better be incredibly well made. The bugatti veyron is a car everybody wants, but because everybody wants it, does not mean it is going to be cheaply made for Americans. Japan manufacturers of clubs are told "make a club and send us a bill" For the rest of the world it is, "This is your budget, do the best that you can, and then we will mass produce it in China." Japan has 14 million golfers, only 2% are a member of a club. 7 day membership of a driving range costs $20 000 per year. So wind your neck in USA, things are better made outside your Merica bubble.

Maybe it is a case of the irons looking better in person then in the pics It was that way with the Bio Cell+ irons. Don't know how after all these years here I have missed the fact were both in the Detroit area.

Nobody in Japan pays that either ;)

Please look up articles In your own media. Average cost of club membership in Japan is $ 285 300. Please show me that I am wrong. Most expensive in Tokyo is 3 million, again , if I am wrong please show me.

WOW! A lot of small mindedness in the posts for this topic. Personally I do not like any TM irons currently for sale on the North American Market but these Gloire irons are really sweet looking and I would be happy to put them in the bag. Amazing how some people think that if we don't use it in NA then it must be inferior. And the fact is that PGA players are using the JDM stuff often disguised as what we buy in NA off the shelf. Instead of debating this topic we should be bugging whoever enough in the hopes that we get the JDM clubs sitting beside the NA clubs on the shelves. I want the freedom to choose any club in my home market. To me, the JDM golf clubs are way better looking and more care is put into building them. They come with better grips and better performance to boot.

Is there a 2017 variant of this iron?

One of the asian girls on the LPGA is playing the "tour" iron which is the latest version.

http://www.taylormadegolf.com.sg/gloire-f17-steel-irons-0888167444055.html

Ping G410+ Tensei Orange Pro.

Mizuno GT180 shaft as above.

Adams 3H  Aldila Blue.

Wilson FG100 4i-PW.

Wilson PMP 52/56/60

Putters....too many.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
