My First Hole-in-One...

and I didn't even see it go in!!!

I just got back from a 3-day golf trip in Lake Geneva, WI, where I made my first ace on the 4th hole of the Gary Player course at Geneva National. The hole is 148 yards from the back tees, and the pin was in the back, so I figured it was about 160 total. With a bit of wind in my face and a slight downhill shot, I swung a smooth 7-iron that never left the flag. In fact, while the ball was in the air, I said "get in the hole."

Here's the kicker. The 4th green it two-tiered, and the surface of the back tier isn't visible from the tee so I didn't know where the ball was. It wasn't until we got to the green and looked in the hole that I realized I made an ace. My ball mark was about 3 inches in front of the hole. As you can imagine, the 4 people in our group were stoked.

I proceeded to shoot a 75 from the tips with the ace and four birdies, but I had 6 (count 'em, SIX) three putts. It was my first round in some time on bent grass, and I paid the price. I normally play on bermuda, so the speed of the bent grass took some time to master.

The pro shop at Geneva National gave me a trophy for my ace (Thanks!) and I'll proudly display it in my office b/c I don't know if/when it will happen again.

Haven't seen my one either. 8th Nairn Dunabar, only 164 yards but can't see the green for bunkers!

Made my first on July 4th this year on an uphill 155 yard shot. I had no clue it went, but I knew I hit a good shot. Nothing like that feeling to look on the green and see nothing. Then to look in the hole and there it was my B330s in the hole, nothing like that feeling. Congratulations and go get your next one. :D :crazy:

At least you had witnesses, the only ever hole in one I had was playing by myself and I also didn't get to watch it go in. I just made sure I kept that ball.

I've had two double eagles and I did not see either one of them go in. One was a 9-iron from 155 and the other a 4-iron from 215.

nice one, make sure to keep that ball! i got my first one rather recently, but i luckily got to see mine go in, and with 3 spectators behind me watching too throwing a hoot, it was a great experience for me.

 

The ball is placed on the trophy they gave me. I'll try to remember to take a pic and post it. Thanks.

I've had two HIO's and didn't see either of them go in! :cheesy:

 

One at the state HS Tourney back 100 years ago to an elevated par three. The other at a muni near my home, dusk (VERY dusk), 160yds. Heard it hit the flagstick and when we got to the green the front of the hole was torn out! :cheesy:

 

That was at least 12 years ago!!! :cheesy:

I got my first one this year too. I was with three good friends (Phorty's) that made it even more exciting. Everything after is just a blur. :) Congrats!

Good going with the trophy and keeping the ball. I lost my hole-in-one ball literally the next shot. I didn't think to put the ball away until I realized that I just hit my first hole-in-one ball into the weeds.

 

We never found it.

 

Oh Well, I did get another one on a much easier hole a few years later in an annual company tournament. I kept that ball!

 

Also, check Google for hole-in-one club web sites. I think there are some out there. This is probably another good souvenir.

What did you think of the course? Did yoy play the other two courses? I really like the Palmer. I play at least one of those courses every year as I am about an hour away.
