Just a few things to add to this thread after hitting that 7-iron last night:

1. Higher launch than I expected out of that shaft... I assume the head has a lot to do with this.
2. While it launched high, it didn't spin too much. This lead to notable distance gains.
3. kekoa is a sandbagger (had to throw that in there).
4. SOFT off the face! Seriously soft... Softer than my MP-60 and my MP-69s... Softer than kekoa's SB1s and his Flatbacks. I honestly did not expect this.
5. If kekoa ever wants to rid himself of these, he's got a buyer in me.

Congrats on the clubs, bro. They are exactly what you were looking for. Now that these are in the bag, I'm not giving you any more strokes.

love these clubs i have mine shafted with SPB stiff as well. i had a backup set in x that i was going to use just in case the
S was soft but they are perfect! above poster is right its higher launch than the shaft specs suggest but low spin which is
a bonus!

I like the shaft choice for these. I'm surprised of the difference in flight but if you are getting low spin along with that flight that's a bonus.

How's the dispersion compared to your Scratch irons?

Hey guys. First off, the benz isn't mine. A friend just bought it. I wish it was mine, but I decided to have 3 kids instead. :swoon:

Well, I just got back from the range and I cannot say how impressed I am with these irons. Met up with a fellow WRX'er Mikeytown and he can attest to everything. It was really a shot in the dark for me not having held the heads or tried the shafts before buying. I only brought out the 7 iron to test and I will say a few things with certainty. First off, they are at least half a club longer than my playing set (Scratch flatbacks). Second, they also fly a club higher ie. the 7 iron was flying the same height as my Scratch 8 iron. Win Win!!! Thirdly, these irons are soft soft soft even with range balls. I'm also very happy with the SPB shafts. Again, I had no idea what to expect but read nothing but great things on wrx and they live up to all of it. Super smooth. I initially thought the SPB were low to mid launch shafts, but maybe its the head that is giving me the added height?

I snapped a quick pic of my 3 7 irons below. From left to right- EPON SUS316 - Scratch Flatback - Scratch TD SB-1. At address, the offset on the SUS really stick out, but that's compared to 0 offset irons. I had no problem adjusting and feel a lot more confident over the ball now.

As far as specs being off, I'm going to speak to my builder a bit more about this. All the said is that they were way off, but not sure if this meant a degree or two or more.

He probably thought hey were way off compared to standard US specs but I bet they were spot on to what Epon meant them to be.

So to put the O.P. on the spot, where did you get the Epon heads as no authorized Epon fitter or builder is allowed to sell heads only. If the head spec are all over the place, I am sure you can go back to seller if he is a reputable and authorized guy.
I didn't know that, but thanks for the info. It does makes sense now why the heads were a bit off as I doubt EPON sends heads out fully spec'd out. They go to an authorized fitter/builder who specs them out to the customer's desired lofts/lies, etc.

i wonder what he was saying was off on the heads. I picked up used epon personal heads and head weights were spot on, exactly 7g apart. obviously no way to know if lie/lofts were off considering they were played. if lie/lofts were the issue then i'd imagine that's adjusting to customer specs when built?

I have had experience with Epon irons and drivers since 2006 and thats not the way they operate. As far as I know, all spec per standard were delivered to authorized fitter than build to spec per customer's requested. I have had set built by fitter and set built by Epon directly in Japan and all were per published spec. The key word here is standard spec per their website. I was never able just to buy heads only so cannot tell you whether heads delivered to 'authorized' builders would be off from standard.

i just received a set of Epon AF302s in copper from Epon and they were spot on.......the weights were pretty close to perfect with only 1 head being a gram off from ideal weight.......the loft and lie were amazingly accurate as well......of the over 125 sets of irons i have owned, the Epons are definitely the best i have encountered.....

Dude, great set of irons and the car is unreal. I'm surprised with the SPB comments. I've noticed that it was more low/mid when I had them shafted in my Scratch AR1s. But it sounds like higher flight with added distance isn't a bad thing.

If you want to sell them off, I'll be second in line after Mikey.
I think the heads have a lot to do with the higher flight, just opinion of course. Lot more mass down low than a few of the irons compared against.

Take worse pictures kekoa, I can't close this thread they look so good lol.

Most important question: Will you be using Epon headcovers the next time we go out?
Bro, I'd be lying if I said the idea didn't cross my mind. :)
LMAO!

It's not every day that someone asks me: "Would you still be my friend if I used iron headcovers?"

It's also not every day that the person being asked that question actually understands where the other guy is coming from.

WRX'ers... we are a rare breed, indeed.

Yes, you can still get them. It is an extra $100 per head to get copper, and they are spectacular.
