These guys have no problem playing fast when trying to beat weather or darkness to finish out a round.

Slow play in the PGA Tour is getting no better because the Tour doesn't penalize anybody.
What could be more fitting than Furyk having the horn blow as he was in the middle of his pre-putt fidgeting on 18!?
Do they wait to blow the horn until after a player has finished his shot? I would hope to get a replay if that happened to me on 18.

The Tour isn't going to penalize any player in the last few groups in contention on tough stretches like the green mile or 16-18 at Sawgrass during a final round. But what Furyk did on 18 was about as bad as I've ever seen. I'm surprised he made it. That pre-shot routine would mess me up.
He must have re-aligned his ball half a dozen times for the 4 footer on 17. But at least he made it.

How to play golf.
Hit the ball.
Find the ball
Repeat until the ball is in the hole.
Have fun.

I dislike slow play as much as the next guy BUT Sunday evening with The Players Championship on the line in the final group is not the day they decide to drop the hammer on slow play stroke penalties.

Now Thursday afternoon at the HP Byron Nelson could be a good time to start and throw around some penalties...

Lol

They were both slow rounds filled with practice swings and indecision. It's championship golf, they aren't going to randomly pick one of the years biggest events and hit the final group with a slow play penalty. If they get decide to actually start enforcing slow play with stroke penalties it won't be at a tournament like The Players.

What day was Henley in the 2nd to last group? Not Sunday. Also how could I have posted this topic before the final round even occurred? Common sense please...

You're disregarding the point of my post which is still on topic regarding the topic being discussed. They simply are not going to give penalty strokes to the final pairings at a huge tournament like that. It just simply isn't going to happen. If the Tour decides to strengthen their stance and start dropping strokes on players who are playing slow and falling out of position it will begin at an event of lower popularity and importance, that is a guarantee.

I have no issue with it. Golf is golf, it is not basketball, football , soccer, whatever, yada yada yada. Wanna play speed golf in your own play , thats fine. If we wanna tighten the screws down till we have cookie cutter robots playing ( which we are starting to see), then we will really see viewers exiting. ummm, IMO

I find it interesting the LPGA does MUCH better at policing slow play.
That's because they enforce it and aren't afraid to penalize players.
And for some reason I'm watching the LPGA more and more. Specifically why I have not a clue. Might be the prima donna factor that has crept into the PGA.

They are playing some really good golf too. It helps that some of the top American players are having good years too. I hope the back to back US Open thing doesn't blow up in the LPGA's face. There are so many factors that could affect the final scores but for some if there is a noticeable difference in scoring, it'll be used to knock the women's game down a few notches. Would love to see the exact opposite.

Not to mention Spieth's 3rd on 18 took over 10 minutes. PGA needs to get this crap under control or they will lose all their viewers.
Exactly.. talk about a 40 or 50 second rule...... OMG.. There were shots after shots that Spieth was taking 2 minutes on.. Kevin Na looked like a cheetah compared to the final grouping.. LOL So much for the "RULES ARE RULES" people.. they conveniently put on blinders.. LOL

PGA Tour has a thing called "time par" that is set for every course and it's set on hole by hole intervals after an analysis of each hole. So it's not necessarily the same time even front nine to back nine, much less week to week. But the rule is 2 parts. First is playing within "time par", and ONLY if they are outside of that does the amount they are behind the group ahead come into play. I don't know the facts.. but if Spieth/Kaymer were within "time par", then it wouldn't have mattered if they were 3 holes behind... they wouldn't be put on the clock.

As for Spieth/Kaymer, If the Tour's not gonna ignore the rules for Tiger... I sincerely doubt the Tour is going ignore the pace of play rules for those two. Remember the WGC Bridgestone showdown between Padraig and Tiger? They were no further behind that year than Spieth and Kaymer were at this year's players, but TW/PH were outside of "time par" and put on the clock going into #16 (which IMO significantly threw Padraig off his game)
