Extra Day in Chicago - where to go?

If you're heading down from Kohler, I would suggest playing The Bull in Sheboygan falls, WI or Erin Hills in Erin, WI. The bull is on the way down and EH is just about a half hour or so west of Milwaukee and well worth it.

In my opinion, we have a lot of great courses, but you may never have another opportunity to be that close to EH, and most of the "great" courses are private here.

Either one of those options would wrap up your trip quite well.

Ya we're going to play The Bull while we're there after one of our morning Straits/Blackwolf rounds Haven't played it yet, so looking forward to it.
Played EH a couple years ago and I just have trouble getting my head around the cost, for how much I enjoyed it.

@DP4 - depending on how we play, fun maybe the best way to end the long weekend

The Bull is a great course. The first few holes are "meh", but then it turns back into the woods for a stretch of holes that are tough as nails.

I wasn't overly impressed with Hawk's View. The holes up in the hills are sweet, but a large number of holes are in the plains, and nothing to write home about in my opinion. However, for the price, it's not a bad course. If I were in the area, I'd choose Grand Geneva Brute over Hawk's View.

I have to second my nomination for Brown Deer.

I would play the courses at Geneva National over Hawk's View or Grand Geneva.

Brown Deers a decent layout but conditioning is pathetic. IMO don't waste your time

Play Milwaukee CC if you can get on! It's beautiful! Only about a mile from bdp

Hey folks,

It looks like Dubsdread is going to be aerated less than a week before we might play it in May. Does anyone know if they do a 50/50 aeration and/or if they are not super intrusive with their programme?
As you guys have been great to offer up courses and opinions, we're hardly starved for choices if we take it off the list, but thought I'd ask.

Guess I can contact the course as well eh? And should do.

Train stops right outside their gate, shouldn't be a problem.

Taking the train to Ravi is easy. Just be careful when you walk through the gate, the 10th tee is right there:)

Taking the train to Rav is fantastic. Especially if you live downtown/south loop as the train leaves from Millenium Park. I probably take it once a week and couldn't be happier with it. Also, the course is in great shape this spring. Lastly, if you find yourself having an extra beer and running late for one of the trains back to the city, they will gladly give you a ride down to the train on one of the carts. Nice touch.

I played Dubs a couple years ago after it had been punched. They don't do 50/50, its all at once. And don't expect any discount off the $150 fee just because the greens are unplayable.

Honestly, you should skip Dubs under those conditions. Not worth the money.

^Thanks for the confirmation. Yup, we will be doing just that if they don't 50/50. It's funny I found an old (circa 2001) article where they did, obviously loads have changed since then.
It's one thing to play your local muni for $20 and play auto-two putts inside 30 feet (don't worry those wouldn't be posted rules guys ) but definitely not on a $155/round.

I'd like to take the train to Ravisloe and have Chicago's version of a Prestwick Golf Club start, but I think we'll spunk the money on Erin Hills now on the drive back from Kohler.

Just a note of Ravi, if you call about 10 min before you get to the stop, they will send over a person to get you from the train as well. Love that course, doesn't play like 6300 yds at all, greens were in great condition a couple of months ago as well.
