Update, talked to my father, he doesn't have the 915 yet it is en route, he hit the 10.5 last week (same loft as his 913) but said he ordered the 12*, I would attribute this to it probably being lower spinning than the 913, but he didn't launch/spin his 913 high anyway and probably could have played a 10.5 in that as well

Round 1: Titleist loses the first round of the new driver competition to Ping. More than 10 Ping staffers put the G30 into play this past weekend, and Cabrera won with it. Meanwhile, Spieth tried the 915, and went back to his 910.

I haven't heard of any "name" Titleist staffers putting the 915 into play as of yet.

I'm not a Titleist hater; in fact, I play AP1's and Vokeys. But, I swapped out a 913 D2 last year for a G25 and found the Ping easier to hit just a little farther, more often.

I'll be giving the 915 a shot; in fact, I'll most likely own one. But, I am more excited for the G30.

If the club doesn't satisfy their tour staff, I can't see Titleist trying to sell the driver to the general public. I can see a recall.

This point is likely moot because the staff seems to really like it, Speith only switched because of comfort and lack of testing. He isn't a very good driver of the golf ball in general (by PGA standards). He contended at the Masters because that course is generally regarded as 'generous' for poor drivers.

Might be a touch early to form any opinions on the 915, obviously the G30 is out and being played so we will hear about it much sooner.

This isn't exactly a fair comparison for a number of reasons:

1) 18 of 29 full-line Titleist staffers put the 915 driver in play at Congressional. That's more than Ping's 10.

2) Cabrera won because he played incredibly well. Attributing his win to the G30 is nothing more than marketing.

3) Spieth thought the 915 was good enough to switch for the 1st round. He then switched back because he had a bad driving day, but he still had a bad driving day the 2nd round, so any notion of the 915 not being good enough is unfounded.

4) The biggest name for Ping is Bubba and the biggest name for Titleist is Adam Scott, but Scott hasn't played since the US Open so we can't say whether he's switched to the 915. Furthermore, Adam is more likely to stick with old equipment than Bubba, especially when it comes to the driver.

I'm not saying the 915 "won" over the G30, but the type of comparison you're making is pointless.

That is why Titleist doesn't release them until November. Most of their testing is by their pros on the tour in tournaments. Ping on the other hand does most of the testing in house and when they appear at tournaments all the tweaks are done and in this case ready for retail less than a month after official announcement. Two approaches that have worked well for each company..

I don't think we will see Scott switch drivers until late in the season when his Australia swing begins. He's really clicking with his 913 currently and there are lots of important tournaments. But you never know, heck he could even show up to the Open with a 915. I'm just basing my theory on the fact that he doesn't switch to often. It took him 10 months to switch from the 910 to the 913. And the shaft setup was the same. He's still bagging the 910FD and I won't elaborate on the irons.

New driver looks nice but definitely old Nike tech! Now that I think about it Nike has had a lot of copied 1st's. Elongated driver heads, Square heads, adjustability, and the compression channel. Don't really like Nike equipment but I gotta give them some credit! Back on topic, I still love the look of the 915. Like that they kept the weight in the rear for moi purposes!

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but stop arguing about whether it is a copy or not. The fact is that Nike could have patented their compression channel even before the Titleist one, we don't know for sure. We do know they were the first to bring it to market and were fairly successful. But none of that matters as this is a different type of channel and will be something that functions a little bit different than the Nike. Let's just go on the fact that they've been working on this driver tech for some time and feel they've improved upon it enough to put it on market at this time. I am sure that it does it's job better than we can tell at the moment because no one has hit it.

Also, don't take any credit away from another company that does try new tech and is eager to try and innovate. Nike has done an incredible job of bringing new ideas and concepts to the table and inspiring others to keep innovating. These companies are all very good and put a lot of effort and time into creating something they believe will help golfers score better.
