Favorite Time to Tee Off

Recommended Posts

For sure 1st out or at least 2nd out. That way no one is around to hold me up. I play enough scrambles for work, that I don't need 5 hr rounds when I'm playing my own ball. I will also play after 4-4:30 for the same reasons. Although I must say I teed off at 11 this past Saturday at a pretty popular course and it was dead, which was a nice bonus bc I steeled myself for 41/2 to 5 hrs.

Definitely first off and as a single if possible.

The kicker is when you get around to #10 and the starter has sent groups out on the back nine. Infuriating. An anticipated 2 1/2 hour round suddenly stretches to 4 hours. Still not bad but annoying nevertheless.

The course has a "Breakfast Special" - breakfast and the back 9. Usually "recreational" players involved.

Not hard to figure out that a course cares about an extra $500+ in revenue each day than ensuring the single who teed off first can play in 2 1/2 hours

First tee time on the weekend (7:15 AM) at my club. Keeps the wife happy when I get home before noon (and that's usually with a lunch and beer post-round). If they don't meet me at the club for lunch, I'll usually bring something home for the wife and daughter ...

Depends on the time of year. In the summer I like to tee off 3:30-4:00 in the afternoon just because the heat isn't as bad and there's usually a little breeze. Fall, winter, and spring I prefer to go early, say 7;30 or earlier.

I usually play as early as possible to avoid long rounds and to get back to the family ASAP. Since I only get to see my kids for a couple hours a night before they go to bed on weekdays, I feel like its stealing time away from them if I play in the middle of the day on the weekends. If I had to pick MY favorite time to play, it would be 3:30 of so.

Makes me feel lucky to play where I do for my league...
I was in on Monday getting things squared away for this week and next, and they asked what 9 we were playing next week. I told him the back and they said they would make a note to start everyone off #10 that morning so we're not jumping into rounds of the early turners (our league tees off around 10)

In the heat, I prefer early. Nothing like getting that first tee time at the crack of dawn, having to wait for the sun to come up some more before you hit range balls. Second is late afternoon, as the posters above said, let the course clear out, have it almost to yourself on a weekend.

Of course, the club I joined last year doesn't even start tee times in the summer until 8:00am. I used to have already made the turn by then....

no start times till 8am WTF? sounds like the grounds crew could use the number for dustin's hook up!
I know. I have talked a couple of guys I play with and we have mentioned it to somebody on the Golf committee, he said he will bring it up in their next meeting. He said the crews get to the course at 5:30, but don't start working on course until 6:30. Sorry, that is too late. There is absolutely no reason to wait until 8:00 to start tee times in the summer around here. Especially when it gets as hot as it does by mid-day here in East Texas. One thing he said he would consider was an 8:00 am shotgun start for all the morning tee-times. I don't think that will work either, it also kind of assumes everybody will be riding in a cart, and a lot of the early players are walkers.

they need lights on their mowers! the hole i live nearest to (muni) is mowed by 5:50 every day (in summer).

ok here's my favorite tee time.

7 am, home by 11, eat lunch, hit some chip shots, putt some, then head back out for a twilight loop till its dark.

When there is no one in front of me and no one behind me.
Does that happen very often?
Well actually it has been happening quite often this yr. I play a lot of different courses. I'll check around online and look at each course's available times and pick a slot that looks good to me.I played a course Saturday where all the times from 11:30 to 1 were open. We made a 12:30 tee time. So at least my group had a great front nine and a few holes on the back before we hit the road block. We played the front in an 1:45 and the back in 3 hrs. We also play on Tues. Most courses are booked up to around 10 ish. So we will make a time around 11-11:30. We usually don't catch anyone on Tues. Every one seems to move a long during the week. I also play a lot as a single walking. Going out late in the afternoon especially on Sat. and Sun. is usually good. I won't catch any one until I am almost done. When I do catch a group I'll hit extra balls since no one is behind me.
I am about to the point of giving up golf after playing for over 20 yrs. I can't take slow play and plus 41/2 to five hr. rounds any more. So this yr. I am more selective of where and what time I make my tee time. That has helped some and made golf more enjoyable. Sat. backfired on me on the back nine but it was one of the few times this yr. my idea hasn't panned out.
