Just comparing the vpc to ap2 in the store they are almost identical. I have no doubts that Nike was shooting for the ap2 when designing the vpc, and I think that was the right call.

I saw the Vapor line in person for the first time today. Vapor Pro looks really good at address. However, I'm VERY disappointed in the Pro Combo set. They've gone away from a player's club to more of game improvement, IMO. The offset is dramatic and the sole is way too wide. I would hope that the Vapor Pro irons are pretty good in the forgiveness category b/c it appears Nike no longer has a Player's CB offering.

Wow, I don't think the VPC are a game improvement iron, they are a players club, IMHO. The Speed set is game improvement. I think Nike did a fantastic job with the VPC, nice thin topline, less offset, great feel. I liked the CF, but felt they were a little clunky, to me the VPC is a prefect iron. Too each his own I guess, but I feel that the VPC irons still require a quality strike, and consistent impact, are they more forgiving than the Pros, sure, but still need to be consistent with the strike.

The vapor pro combo 4-iron reminded me of the old Cleveland VAS irons...way too much offset and massive sole width. That's my opinion. Everyone is free to form their own assessment.
We have a set of VAS irons in our shop that someone dropped off...similiar to VPC, yeah...uh...no..."I don't care who you are"..Larry the Cable Guy.

For those you that got custom shafts in the VPC... what is the average price for steel? I'm looking at the Nippon1150, PXI, KBS Tour in the spring. Also while I'm on customization, I noticed some posters getting the irons 2 degrees strong. How does that effect the beveled leading edge's turf interaction ?

The best set of irons i had prior to covert forged were the original AP2's. On paper I thought these were an evolution of VRPC but you are absolutely right. I put them by the AP2's and to me they had a slightly thinner top line and that sealed the deal for me.

To each his own. IMO a players CB should be similar to a blade with slightly more forgiveness and perhaps different launch conditions due to weighting. With that said, I consider examples of players CBs to be Mizuno MP-15, 64, Titleist CB, AP2, Nike pro combo CB, callaway x-forged CB, etc.

I do like the fact that GolfWRX provides opinions and honest feedback, but VAS irons compared to a VPC long iron has to be the most ridiculous comment I have heard since joining this website. I would love to know what you think of a G30 iron or RSI long iron if the VPC is a VAS iron.

I agree on the part of the Ap2 originals being the best. IMO the originals are still the best Ap2's. I still don't know if I like the VPC's. The Pro's look better and feel better IMO. Maybe it's the shaft, or hitting inside, or that's its December in MN, or maybe because I don't have a set?

Today I went back and hit the vpc 7 iron again and after just getting done playing 18 I had my clubs in the truck. I brought my covert 7 iron to compare against it! I don't understand how I hit the vpc 10-14 yards further with less dispersion. I love the new clubs but I'm scared to buy in December without hitting them on the course!!! Also 4 yards furthers then ap2 for me!! I don't care to much about distance as I'm after consistency but more yards are more yards right!! :-)

When I ordered the Vapor Pro I had my doubts. Even when I was coming from mp59, that are no GI by any means, I had never played pure blades. But I ended my Minnesota season playing so bad, that I said, "wtf, go ahead, you always wanted blades, is now or never". Now, after 5 rounds, 5 practice sessions and a lesson, is like I have been playing these forever. Distance and low dispersion, even in not so good shots is the good thing about them.

Hearing all these positive reviews has me thinking of going to the swoosh again. I have $400 in global golf store credit and trade in value for my AP2's is $300. When global has another 130% trade in, I might just pull the trigger on a set of VPC.

How many of you guys have switched from AP2's and have no regrets.

Sorry, my season in mn ended 6 weeks ago. At that time I was playing crappy. I am vacationing in Phoenix now.

The MP59 had KBS Tour shafts SS. These have Nippon 95. My swings are effortless now, maybe the weight is better on that regard. Both my Mizunos and Fourteens (with steelfibers i95) when flushed feel really good. The feeling in the VP is not that different but is not the same butter. I think feel wise, the previous nike blades were more akin to the Mizunos, as I remember testing them 4 months ago.

But the amazing thing with the VP so far has been what happens when you don't hit them perfect. The ball is going on decent path. I want to call that forgiveness, but you still have it hit as a golfer, these are no game improvements. Anyway, 5 rounds and no shanks, I will take that.

I got 5-PW. And I have not feel any difference. It is like I have been playing these forever. My only concern is the PVD durability, especially from bunker playing.

I had the 714 AP2 and CF 2.0 before I got my VPC. In the VPC I went back to a little heavier shaft (stock DGpro S300) from the XP105, so I believe that has helped me as much as the irons. The VPC and Ap2 are very similar, but for me the feel is better with the VPC, a little longer distance, better flight, and more forgiving. With the Ap2, if I hit it a little low or on the toe side, I was punished more than the VPC. For me, the VPC seems like the perfect iron, great looks, great feel and performs fantastic. I really have grown to love the Volt too.

The black PVD is wearing off. The issue has been mentioned on other threads. Was supposedly limited to a preproduction run of 30 sets. Not a huge deal to me as I play in the desert and all clubs get dinged eventually. But I will contact Nike and report back.

That really sucks and makes me nervous. It seems like it's a craps shoot if you get a good set or not. I know some people will not care one way or another, but your iron certainly does not look new.

If it were me, I would go back to nike. They claim this shouldn't be an issue and I believe they will stand by it. It's an inconvenience though for you.

Hmmm.....that's not good for resale values. Not that I buy golf clubs for resale, but definitely comes into play when considering the $1100 price tag.

Talked with the gentleman at Nike and they will make it good. Am actually going to just exchange it at the local retailer and they will handle the warranty return. I may be out a regrip but ah well. The Nike rep mentioned they had some early productions that had just one or two coats of the black on them and they all come with eight now to prevent this issue and one of the early clubs may have found its way into my set.
Kind of a pain but as long as they are this easy to deal with I am glad I have them. They have been a great set of irons so far!

I'm hoping us Lefties will escape the PVD issue since our production line was much later. However, I can tell you right now if this happens to my clubs, I will let the PVD finish wear away then remove it completely and paint the swoosh red to match my Modus 3's! (MM Proto Style!)

good to hear....I had the same issue, for me it was the 7 iron. All others you can tell the PVD is dinged up not the paint isn't coming off. But for whatever reason it looks like the 7 iron was a early set. I have mine with a custom shaft (original DGs) so not sure if I can just exchange it at the local shop but its a hassle either way.

with that said, I love everything else about it

Nike is the best in the business when it comes to customer service. But I just find it ironic that you are the second or third wrxer that has had this issue. Is it just a coincidence that the earlier sets found its way to you guys? I hope so, but it still makes me nervous.

Anyways, glad they got it fixed for you.

Just comparing the vpc to ap2 in the store they are almost identical. I have no doubts that Nike was shooting for the ap2 when designing the vpc, and I think that was the right call.

The best set of irons i had prior to covert forged were the original AP2's. On paper I thought these were an evolution of VRPC but you are absolutely right. I put them by the AP2's and to me they had a slightly thinner top line and that sealed the deal for me.

I agree on the part of the Ap2 originals being the best. IMO the originals are still the best Ap2's. I still don't know if I like the VPC's. The Pro's look better and feel better IMO. Maybe it's the shaft, or hitting inside, or that's its December in MN, or maybe because I don't have a set?
did you order the VPC already or was it a wish list? I don't miss the MN winter! Its only mid 40s here in Nashville but i am doing a Trackman fitting next week. VP, VPC, AP2, and possibly Cally Apex.

Just hit these guys in the bay at Golfsmith...I thought I was going to go with the Apex Pro for my next set (despite not being a combo), but even with the stock S300 the Vapor Pro Combo thoroughly won me over. I was seeing ~3yds more with the Callaways over my Pings, probably more like +8 with the Nikes and significantly better feel.
