US Open picks? Rooting for Rickie. Not sure he is the horse for this course, but a win would get lots of kids energized about golf.

I'm pretty pumped for this weekend. We have a wedding in downtown GR Saturday, and it looks like Founders is within walking distance. Has anyone been there recently and know if they have anything unique on tap?

The best part is my dad is watching my son overnight, so I won't have any kid issues and can enjoy myself and possibly even sleep in. Then Sunday afternoon 8 of us are playing Sharf, and hopefully catching the end of the U.S. Open afterwards.

I don't often get weekends like this, hell I've only played golf on the weekend (without bringing my son along) once since the season started.
I was at Founders last week for the very first time. Had a great time and the weather was perfect to hang out on the patio. I can't say that I had anything exotic that they had on tap. I'm generally a pretty boring beer guy although I do like to experiment from time to time. For that particular night I stuck with some All Days.

The thing that I was most pleasantly surprised about was the food. Usually breweries are known for great beer and good environment with ok food. I had just a simple club sandwich (Mug Clubber) and it was outstanding. It also could've been the stop at HopCat on the way down there that made the sandwich taste so good.....

I cannot wait to watch this US Open. Such a unique setup. I feel like Dustin Johnson will have a good week.

I am hoping Phil can finally get it done though

I'm one of those degenerate gambler types so I have 6 foursomes in a large work pool, 4 lineups on draftkings, and 7 players that I did individual online bets on to win.

I can't wait to watch and it's cool to have some extra rooting incentive.

Players I like this week:

Rose
Stenson
Sergio
Fowler
Koepka
Na
Walker
Furyk

Players I don't like this week:
DJ
Day
Rory
Tiger (of course)

Man, +10 for Tiger and +11 for Fowler. One seems like the continuation of a narrative of struggle, and the other seems like an outlier compared to recent form. Both rounds they'd rather forget.

Gents,

Up North on my annual buddies golf trip. 21 guys raising a little hell. The bad part about it. I won't see any of the U.S. open :(

We started are trip off with a round on the Treetops Fazio Course. Greens were outstanding and Treetops has really improved their course maintence with exception to the bunkers.

We then played the Links/Quarry for our evening round. Bay Harbor continues to be one of the most scenic and wild courses in Northern Mich. the greens were pretty slippery and the views speak for themselves.

Today we have a morning round at Otsego Club Tribute which is one of my all time favorites.this afternoons round will be at Hawkseye and I hope course conditions are decent but for $25 I can't complain about anything.

Tomorrow we play the Boyne Art Hills Course in the morning followed by little Traverse Bay in the evening.

Sunday we end with 36 holes at Forest Dunes. I can't wait but after day 1 I can barely walk. 36 holes is starring to kick my a**.

Cheers!

The bunker situation at Treetops has been bad for so long that it seems like it's just the way they are. My group of 8 guys did our annual trip there two years ago, and there were huge rocks in all of the bunkers--we're talking baseball-sized in some cases. It's a pretty major blemish on the courses, IMO. You shouldn't have to worry that you're going to damage your club or injure yourself on a rock under the surface every time you hit it in a bunker.

No-go on founders today unless you're free for the whole day. It's founders fest which is a huge block party. 30 minute wait in line and $30 entry fee. Sounds fun but I only had 90 minutes to kill between the wedding and reception and by the time we parked and walked over we had wasted 40 min. Went to hopcat instead...no regrets

OMG D.J. Really?
His stroke on the back nine did not look good. Really getting the toe through fast and pulling/hooking putts. I feel bad for him, but Spieth should have had a comfortable win after 16.

I will give the USGA a pass at the course conditions/selection, but the Fox coverage this week was terrible. USGA got greedy and has really hurt themselves now. Fox needs to fire their whole crew and start stealing away some of the crew from ABC. It is hard to be good at covering golf, when you only show 3 tournaments a year and only one a PGA tour event.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I kind of liked Fox's coverage, at least as far as the graphics and camera work was concerned. I hardly listen to the announcers.

Liked the liberal use of shot tracer. Joe Buck proved he does not know golf yet, but I can listen to him and he's a pro that should grow into a capable anchor. The Shark performed like a rookie. Holly was simply terrible. The on course crew was capable.

I thought the graphics and shot tracer was solid. Camera work was average overall - but they did have a hard time following the ball. I am thinking part of that was the course. Corey Pavin was terrible. Tom Weiskoph is a snore and the Shark was adding no value.

I know they will get better, but given their limited schedule - I am not sure the crew will actually get better.

Absolutely loved how many shot tracers Fox had setup on the course and the mics on the ball going into the hole.
Get to see guys play shots, how they're shaping the ball, etc.

"Announcer" wise ... Curt Menefee from Fox NFL was absolutely atrocious. I didn't see too much to point out with Joe Buck and Greg Norman except that they're both new to full time golf TV coverage. I think the Joe Buck interview on after the trophy presentation was AWESOME. You can tell that guy knows how to keep the mood light and keep the guys talking to the crowds.

Most of the former players that helped with the announcing were all a complete snooze in my opinion. Faxon, Pavin, McCarron, all had pretty much nothing to add except to be overly polite on missed shots.
