To this date, however, Rory has amassed 16 top 10 finishes in 23 global starts, including four victories and five runner-ups. Because of his two major victories, this year trumps his 2012 when he won five times.

Since 1970, these are the years in which a golfer won multiple major championships:

1975 - Jack Nicklaus - Masters and PGA Championship among his six global titles that year, which included the Australian Open.

1977 - Tom Watson - Masters and British Open among his five PGA TOUR victories that year.

1980 - Jack Nicklaus - U.S. Open and PGA Championship, but these were Jack's only victories that year.

2000 - Tiger Woods - U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship among his 10 worldwide victories that year. Most of Tiger's victories came in tournaments with very strong fields.

2002 - Tiger Woods - Masters and British Open in addition to four other victories worldwide.

2005 - Tiger Woods - Masters and British Open among his seven global titles that year.

2006 - Tiger Woods - British Open and PGA Championship as part of a nine victory campaign worldwide. It is worth noting that Tiger won seven times worldwide in 2007, which included one major, and in 1999 he won 10 times worldwide, but with only one major.

2008 - Padraig Harrington - British Open and PGA Championship, but only one other victory worldwide.

Other huge years which included only one major were Tom Weiskopf's 1973 (seven wins), Greg Norman's 1986 (nine wins) and Vijay Singh's 2004, a nine victory campaign.
